Has anyone else noticed that an awful lot of car drivers seem to have lost all perception of spacial awareness now?

I can't go into a supermarket any more without meeting a car having come onto my side of the road after they go around a corner.

Or is it just me?

A major annoyance of mine right now is motorists ignoring the yellow box areas at junctions. Admittedly, some of these are so faded that it is difficult to see them clearly, but it does annoy the hell out of me.

....as they approach the roundabout, but then don't as they leave it. Or they just have the original signal still going.

I doubt I'll sleep tonight now I've started thinking about this.

I may write a letter to the paper.

A few tips if you are going to write to the paper

Always start your opening paragraph with the wonderful device of the rhetorical question.... "Why, Oh Why..... " being the classic

Underline certain words to give emphasis to the salient points

Random use of capitalised words also adds dramatic effect

However, don't make the mistake of deploying the Underline and the Capitalising too much, or they wil think you are a loon

Green Ink.... always write in Green Ink.... it will make you seem both Knowledgable and Worldly

I always find that the signing off flourish of " I have the honour to be, Sir, Your Most Obedient Servant " adds a certain non-pompous gravity .... much more so than the modern day "Regards" or even "Kindest Regards"

I have written letters to the Local Paper in my distant past.

I used to be old

Driving standards are terrible but I'm starting to wonder to what extent I'm part of the problem. Maybe I need a refresher as I seem to have had a few lapses in concentration lately that haven't caused any strife but I've become a bit conscious of it.

Do that at your peril in London. I got to the point where I effectively budgeted for a few hundred quid of fines a year being a London motorist. Normally because I had the temerity to breathe next to a box junction, which was normally in response to the actions of some other berk.

Driving standards.... on 22:01 - Jun 19 by Bloots

....are at an all time low.

Nobody indicates at roundabouts anymore.

Drivers randomly stop to let others pull out of side roads.

They cut corners when turning right.

Etc, etc.......god I'm getting old.

To add a counter view, I appreciate the recent development (around these parts at least) of people indicating left to show that they're continuing straight on when approaching a mini roundabout that has straight on or right turn as the options from the direction they're travelling in.

Makes it much easier to know whether it's safe to proceed. More of this sort of thing please.

Not seen an Audi or BMW do it yet though, obvs.

…but he’s pretending to have me on ignore, so I get extra points for that.

He says he has me on ignore then answered one of my posts the other day. Maybe he’s psychic?

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Driving standards on the whole are abysmal nowadays. There appears to be no etiquette at all anymore, and everyone seems to want to get to their destination as quickly as possible without any thought to the consequences of their actions.

There also seems to be a sizeable part of the population who think it is acceptable to tootle along in lane two or three on the motorway with nothing on their inside.

Is it the advent of cruise control and people being virtually asleep at the wheel or have standards slipped so badly that these numbnuts don't actually realise or care that they're causing congestion and risk to those behind?

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
