...or looking forward to?

I'm hoping that Lizard Truss is beaten. Maybe wipe away that awful cavernous 'smile' she wears.

Also Rees Mogg of course...

And quite a few more.

Francois was one of the smug faces of Brexit. Love to see him gone.

Iain Duncan Smith is another. Always ready to lie for the cause.

Thanks to Faiza Shaheen, that will be highly unlikely .

Corbyn.

To be fair to him, he's been MP for Islington for like 30 years. As a local MP, he does a lot for his community. It's just any kind of leadership role he needs to keep away from. He'll easily retain his seat even as an independent I think.

I know it's only joking, but there have been council elections where every seat has been won by the same party. I've been a co-opted member of a committee for a council where the opposition only had two seats, and there was genuine debate and challenge to the cabinet at the meetings by the councillors from the same party. The chair apparently used to get regular böllockings from the leader for asking awkward questions at committee meetings.

Back to the topic at hand, an outcome I'd be pleased with is a Labour victory but Starmer losing his seat. At least as long as it didn't mean Wes Streeting becoming leader...

Should go without saying that I would like the Tories to lose every seat – a total wipeout would be the least they deserve for the last 14 years. I think the tone of British politics would be vastly improved by the SNP or Lib Dems being the main opposition.

Agree with that last line, wholeheartedly.

Owen jones is clearly nervous about corbyn winning. Making lots of plees for local campaigning help on corbyns behalf. And also getting in excuses about it being a highly mobile population in the constituency. Personally, I wouldn't mind Corby winning for the reasons you state.

It may not be likely but it would be funny if Clacton turns on Farage after his Putin enabling statements last night and he loses his deposit.

Am not so sure...

Duncan Smith is defending a very slender majority, well below a thousand, I believe. Will be one to look out for as the results come in.

I was thinking it might be the other way round - Labour have sent in some big guns to help campaign. Although one of them - Margaret Hodge - is an odd choice as she is pretty unpopular locally due to her tenure as council leader.

It's also been amusing to see that hardly any of the local Labour councillors (the ones in Islington North) are campaigning for Nargund or have even acknowledged him as the candidate on social media. Many are campaigning for candidates elsewhere instead, either Emily Thornberry or further afield. I wonder if the party has belatedly realised the anger they've caused locally and are deliberately turning a blind eye to it.

The SNP? Why? The corruption, the criminality, the incompetence, the divisive infighting or the nasty nationalism?

Truss has to be first.
Coffey would be next, followed by Rees-Mogg.
Mordaunt, Sunak, both Hunts.

Interesting article on Brighton Kemptown. Perhaps the striking thing, leaving aside any ructions within the local party, is the following.

"On a walk and bus journey across the whole constituency, past grand, peeling villas and immaculate small bungalows, I saw only two Labour placards outside people’s homes."

This accords with my experience because unlike in previous elections I have yet to see a Labour poster anywhere on various journeys, even in Liverpool on my recent travels by bus from Waterloo to Aintree Hospital.

It would be Tugendhat for me, but very unlikely as, on a worst case scenario, he's one of 53 Tory MPs predicted to survive.
[Post edited 22 Jun 2024 12:42]

Tugendhat has just been on Sky News making a complete and utter fool of himself, and even managing to call Ali Fortescue Sophie.
