At approx. £20 million Omari would surely be our starting No. 10? 13:58 - Jun 28 with 2536 viewsLowie

In the 10 is Omari's best position. Can't see us shelling out the kind of money mentioned for us to use him elsewhere.

Not convinced at all that Chaplin , along with Clarke & Luongo are up to being premier league starters.

I reckon we'll use him exactly as he has been. Price will not confer any extra status.

As to the others being Prem starters (Chaplin particularly), watch this space.

Yes, would agree with that.

Chaplin you felt was really hitting his ceiling last year, I have some doubts he can do it again. Suspect that he's not quite quick enough or strong enough to make a consistent impact in the PL. Pound for pound though, he will go down as one of our best signings of recent years. 27 goals in L2 and 13 last year is a fantastic return.

Clarke, if he can continue to be coached, has all the right attributes to succeed in my opinion. Big, strong, pacey and actually quite good on the ball. Big step up but I think he's got a shot.

He is good enough to play either right or central. Think it is a deal we need to get done sooner rather that later.

He can play anywhere across that three.

I think he established himself as a starter towards the end of last season, just not in one fixed position. Would fit in for Broadhead/Chaplin/Burns depending on which one of them was injured or rested. Next step would be to nail down a preferred position, probably no. 10.

Wonder what sort of wage we are talking about.

If reports in the Times etc are to be believed and we Will be paying Johnson 60k a week for a 4 year contract, what will Omari command?

And what sort of rises did the squad who got us up now get!

I think he definitely starts more games than he did last season.

But we've got to remember, he's still young, it'll be his second full professional season and his minutes will need to be managed. There will be a lot of exposure on him next season too - especially from Arsenal and Chelsea fans wondering why they moved him on, but in general given it's the Premier League and to be honest, I don't think we will have another player like him in our squad except maybe Philogene if he joined.

The current iteration of Mass is a perfect squad player a newly promoted Premier League team.

Clarke and Johnson as our RB's is as good as we're going to get.

And then it's the curious case of Conor Chaplin for me. I don't think he'll be starting the majority of games.

Fewer games than last season and arguably a bit less physical than the Champ.

I would imagine, as long as his form is reasonable, that he starts most games. You don't pay £20m for a bit part player.

If he has a half decent season then he's a 40-60m player we can move on next summer.

Johnson is free so we have saved probably 10 million right there

Johnson will be earning a high salary because there was no fee involved.

This is the reason why players run their contracts down.

In this instants, Johnson will benefit, and not West Ham.

It won't be 60k though imo

West Ham people reckon he was in the lowest 10% of earners at the club - approx 10k a week. We've probably trebled his wages.
