Omari fee 07:23 - Jun 29 with 7286 viewsnodge_blue

Both Phil and EADT were suggesting yesterday that the fee was a lot less than 20 mil. I hope that is the case it would be a huge chunk of our budget with still the need for several other decent recruits. Delighted that he’s staying though as he was the most exciting player in years.

Why wouldn't we make this an "undisclosed" fee? By doing that you're not showing your hand to other Clubs on what we're willing to pay...

I imagine it will officially be undisclosed, the figures being mooted are press talk, though probably pretty reliable given the sources.

We need that as well - we need to get a squad where the subs bench don't weaken the 1st team and the 1st team are all Premier quality, and we need that as quickly as possible.

Arguably, we already have a Prem-quality squad, as it got us promoted to that league. Beating two recently ex-prem clubs to get there (and Wolves in the cup).

I was told by a very reliable source that we’re willing to spend up to about £90m on fees this summer. When you consider we’re probably going to bring in 8-10 that shakes out at an average of about £10m each, although it’ll be more a case of a few higher and few lower in reality.

Omari and someone of the ilk of this Greek lad are probably the £20m players. Maybe a couple of those, then 2 or 3 in the £10m - £15m bracket like a Greaves, Sheaf, Downes, maybe Philogene. That sort of level I would think.

That probably leaves £15m or so for a couple more ‘cheaper’ deals. Plus a couple without a transfer fee (Johnson one of them), we’re also allowed 2 domestic loans and international loans on top so we’ll see 2-3 of those I think which will incur a fee.

That’s all just speculation but will depend on who is available and where we think the budget is best spent.

Fees are also spread out (amortised) over several years. The idea would be to get a good solid base this season and not have to spend big every summer.

Yes. We should evolve. Not revolve.

It could be that a reduced fee is paid due to a large initial payment rather than spread over a year or two.

Yes, the buying club amortises over the length of the players contract.

But in Chelsea’s case as the seller the agreed fee (not including any add ons) less any amortised amount remaining from their purchase of him from Arsenal, will go straight on their bottom line as profit, helping their PSR, which is why they needed this deal to be completed on or before 30/6/24.

Yeah, though age never improved Rooney or Owen. He has so much natural ability though. And he improved loads last season. His out of possession tracking back and tackling became important too. You can’t have any coasters in the side and he certainly isn’t. I guess the only question left for him is doing it regularly now against premiership opposition.

He is not even close to where Owen and Rooney were at this age. Rooney by 19 had moved to Man Utd and Owen at 19 was playing for England. Omari has only proven his ability at Championship level so far.

Omari has a lot of talent and will go far but let's not do the classic British media thing and build him up too fast.

He’s basically a player with got for nothing and paid for him self. Without him we would not have been in the premier league so would not have had the money to splash. Any price is a decent investment, injuries aside and I can’t wait to watch him rip it up.

At their end, yes, for the reasons you state. Town will probably account for it the other way, tho, in order to reduce the outright yearly impact by stretching it.

Yes, for sure we’ll amortise over the length of the contract. Makes total sense to spread £20m or whatever the fee is over that period, plus it’s what HMRC and any audit would expect, as it works the same the other way round, ie in one of my companies, when a client went for the 12 month support and maintenance contract on software, we couldn’t claim the up front 12 month payment as income in the month it was paid, the income (and the associated costs) had to be declared on a monthly basis for the duration of the agreement.
