Omari fee in context - Bright pay £30m for Yakuba Minteh 06:58 - Jul 1 with 2832 viewsunstableblue

Who came through at Newcastle having been picked up from a Danish side

He’s 19

Never played for Newcastle

27 appearances and 10 goals for Feynoord on loan last season

Feynoord probably a bit higher than top of Championship

But £22m for Omari who we know is already settled at Town

I think the money being paid is dizzying. When we spent £1m on a player or two in L1 it looked like Man City lite by comparison with most clubs scratching about. Much the same last year when only relegated clubs plus Coventry could spend multiple millions.

Now you are talking about a division where a club pays £30m for somebody who has never played for Newcastle. I guess it’s all about spending in relation to what you have and as long as clubs think long as well as short term, the numbers are irrelevant. Also, if you are going to spend serious money, Omari is a no brainer. Barring injury, at his age, rate of development and attitude, he looks the real deal.

However, I look at the differences between the divisions and the financial gaps are ridiculous.

Overall, I’m struggling to get my head round where we are to where we were 3.5 years ago when dementor Evans was driving the club towards the National League.

If Omari continues to do well, and chooses England as his football nation, surely his value will at least double whilst with us

I think half our business this summer will be similar - as in large investments with big upside, but McKenna feels can make an immediate impact.

As the investment group knowing that £22m could garner £40m return whilst securing a Premier League position and the revenue that involves.

One slight concern I have is that the state of Premier finances and the stability of other clubs mean this whole of cards might fall down. Already seeing some of it, with fire sales at established clubs such as Chelsea.

In some way we have benefited from that flux. With Chelsea needing money quickly before 1st July to balance books, and Omari being warm to the move. I think perhaps Chelsea would have looked for another loan if they didn’t have that pressure.

It looks better value than the £20m that Chelsea have just paid to Villa for Omari Kellyman.

£20m for a player with 2 senior appearances to his name. Insane.

For further context, our previous record fee was £4.8 million for Sereni.

We got 25 games out of him and got peanuts back in the exit transfer fee, what ever Lazio eventually settled for to cover the friendlies.

We've alsready had nearly twice as many games out of Omari, before he signed for us permanently, and he's been briliant.

Money well spent.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

I'm really not concerned over whether or how much profit we might make on Hutchinson at some point in the future.

The key thing for me is how much he improves our play now. On that score he's certainly worth £20m.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

The important thing is hiring well now and not having to keep spending big every window.

That's how clubs get into trouble, piling fees upon fees until they are difficult to sustain. However long you amortise them, all the overlapping amounts are going to add up eventually.

Those deals are FFP fudges though. Chelsea sell to Villa and Villa sell to Chelsea. It's a swap deal in effect but on the books at a hugely inflated fee for both players. Huge "profit" on a youth player for the sale (instant profit for ffp) with the cost accounted for over several years (kicks the ffp can down the road a bit).

All the cool kids are doing it now, and it's pretty gross.

The investment group think we are going to sell Omari for £62m?

Brighton have got a new player to loan out. Town have got a player they already had. Effectively Town put an unwanted young player in the shop window knowing that his parent club were in severe financial difficulties. And paid the penalty so to speak.

A year in the PL with even half decent performances probably doubles him.

How vocal McKenna was with wanting Omari makes me think he's pretty special....and I don't disagree.

…we know you can do better.

Felt a bit rushed, take a bit more time and put some more thought into the next one.

Thanks.

Newcastle seem to have had a good week - also selling Elliot Anderson to Forest for £35m who was largely a sub for them and did nothing of any note....
