Poll: England v Wales Score

Not given enough credit for his part in our promotion imo, in the top 3 performers throughout the season, won us countless points with great saves and played his part in many goals scored, all after getting into the team unexpectedly. Hero.

I don't really understand this. Did he want to be #1 for us and we couldn't guarantee that as we're looking for a new keeper?

So, first choice New Keeper, Walton understudy?

Made a massive contribution last season but he's not good enough to be a number 1 in the Prem, imo. First half of the season he was ridiculous but second half he started to concede some pretty poor goals and although his overall contribution more than compensated, we can't afford to be giving away too many soft goals next season.

I wish him all the best with his next move, but if we couldn't give him what he wanted then it's right for all parties that he moves on.

Incredible performer for us last season, so important to the success and style. No caveats.

Let’s not all jump to conclusions though. It may be quality, status, wages, but he’s also 33 - the length of contract is often a big (and understandable) stumbling block that clubs and players often fail to reconcile, even when both parties genuinely want to continue together.

Of all the players leaving this summer, I’m sure he’ll go on to good things, and good luck to him.

Wonder if there's going to be a surprise reverse twist where Walton comes back in, plays like peak Shilton and we romp our way to Champions league football.

Length of deal is going to be huge at this stage of his career, and given his career to date. He'll have earned decent money but if he's to set himself up for a comfortable retirement he'll probably be looking to earn over the next 3 years what he has over the past 10 given the position he's negotiating from.

A nice signing on fee and a 3 year deal on 5 figures per week is likely there for him, he might feel like he needs to cash his chips and who could blame him. Equally the club probably can't be offering that to a 33 year old whose ceiling probably isn't in the premier league.

Good luck to the chap.

Vas was absolutely instrumental last season. Deffo a cult hero moving forward. Possibly, and somewhat ironically, even more so for leaving before we kick a ball in the Prem.

….there is an argument that we may need to change our style to some degree next year.

I doubt we’ll get away with the keeper rolling it 10 yards into Morsy’s feet next season.

Perhaps we are overplaying our need for a keeper that is “good with his feet” a bit.

I think those highlighting 'mistakes' are going to be dissapointed that our next keeper isn't flawless and makes them too.

It's an interesting one this I have mixed feelings about this.

I'm gutted he hasn't signed, it totally changes our ability to play from the back in an instant. Ball playing keepers cost an arm and a leg. Hladky always played a good 10 metres 'higher' than Walton so was the perfect sweeper keeper.

On the other hand, this shows Ashton & Co are not going to be mugged off and pay over the odds just because they are now Scrooge McDuck sitting in a pile of shiny coin.

Those saves at Sunderland on the opening day set the tone. Whole season may have been very different without them.

Vaz was also one of our best attacking players.

Good luck to to him and thanks for everything.

So good at certain aspects of the job, but you always felt there was lack of certainty in dealing with balls into the box and communication with defenders. That being said, he was magnificent at goading the press, absolutely magnificent, and usually a decent shot-stopper.

You could certainly have seen a scenario in the Prem where things don't go so well and confidence becomes a major issue again.

Sad to see him go, but if we get a keeper in who is loud and decisive even if not so good with his feet I'll be happier.

That's been the rumour in Scottish papers earlier, but cooled recently.

That's a shame. I always thought we'd be upgrading keeper though, so if he doesn't want to be 2nd choice or have to compete for starts, that's his choice isn't it.

I just hope the replacement is not only at least as confident playing McKenna ball, but also can quickly establish the right rapport with our CDs and DMs because that will be so vital.
