Without watching the 2nd half back 17:33 - Jul 15 with 1725 views | FrimleyBlue | What exactly happend to walker last night. I wondered if his first half injury meant Southgate asked him to give williams room so he didn't have to keep twisting and turn and could just try and cover him. Or did we do something different with mainoo who first half was helping walker more than he did 2nd. Or was it a genius move by the Spanish manager who did something to create those opportunities.. Just wondered what changed as I felt he did a fairly solid job first half.

Without watching the 2nd half back on 17:39 - Jul 15 with 1669 views | MK1 | 10 minutes before half time, Williams went over on the right wing. Walker moved in alongside Stones. Second half starts and It looks like Walker hasn't noticed Williams was back. I was shouting at the telly, for christ sake Walker, look over your shoulder. For the second Williams moved into more of a 10 role, which meant again, Walker moved in along side Stones. Think Walker just switched off again and at that level, it is costly. Spain played it perfectly.

You are right, but Williams moved back to the left before the 1st half ended. For some reason, Walker moved more centrally. He looked, (in the 2nd half), like a centre back who had been asked to play at right back, I assumed it was a tactical decision to respond to Rodri going off. [Post edited 15 Jul 2024 18:17]

Without watching the 2nd half back on 18:03 - Jul 15 with 1552 views | Churchman | Excellent in the first half, taken apart in the second. I wondered if time had caught up with him. He’s not the youngest and he put a heck of a lot in first 45 mins and in the tournament in general. Mainoo looked a bit overwhelmed by the whole thing. Not his best game, but he’s a terrific prospect. [Post edited 15 Jul 2024 22:56]

As long as the new manager picks the best team and not try and shoehorn the "names" in, then we have plenty to look forward to. A more attack minded boss should be able to get many a tune out of the talent available.

If that was the case, shouldn't Saka been covering him? I looked to see Saka where was when we got overloaded for a second time down there and he was on the halfway line

Then the manager should have notice and replaced or Walker himself signal to the bench. Either way, Southgate should have made the change as soon as we equalised.

Yes, Saka should have helped more...he didn’t track back with Cucerella on the second goal | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yep, Saka should have picked up Williams as Walker had to go inside as the third CB to cover the run of Olmo coming from deeper. Rice was outnumbered through the middle.
