Southgate gone on 11:07 - Jul 16 by itfcjoe | Massive shoes to fill, we've gone so far in the last 8 years and he's been a fine manager Think it had run it's course, but hard to see who comes in as a slam dunk to improve things on the pitch whilst retaining the culture off the pitch which is so important |
Retaining the culture off the pitch is easy. Loads of unemployed managers are a shoe in for that. McCarthy will ask them to serenade each other with a guitar; Keane will take them to an abattoir and army camp; Jewell will know a back street joint or two and Lambert could get the beers in. Where does Southgate go from here? Abroad? That would be the best move.

Southgate gone on 11:11 - Jul 16 by tonybied | I think Gareth had run his race and it was the right call from him. The main issue for me is I don't have any confidence in the FA instilling the right man. They lucked into Southgate after the complete and utter farce that was the Allardyce appointment. |
Collective moan when the announce Lampard, probably still with Holland as assistant just to ensure Ben White remains unavailable

Southgate gone on 16:39 - Jul 16 with 344 views | ford6600 | Not surprised but should have gone after the Italy penalties debacle. The FA too weak to act so have to admire GS for being uncharacteristically decisive in resigning now. His stats will hold up well but bloated qualifying groups of minnows nowadays do pad them out. A good man by all accounts but too loyal to his favourite players and lacking in-game tactical nouse, and not a natural attack minded coach. He could have sat on his contract until November so well done GS on resigning quickly. [Post edited 16 Jul 2024 16:45]
