Baggott at LB 08:40 - Jul 22 with 3578 views | Bluebacker | In the post-Shakhter interview Morsy goes out of his way to say how LB might be a new position for Baggott and how well he has done working into it. I had assumed Baggott played there more through necessity as Humphreys and Clarke were unavailable, but I found Morsy’s praise quite telling. It sounds like they have been working with him at LB in training, perhaps in similar vein to how Tuanzebe was used at RB. I imagine we are looking to get someone in as cover for Leif, and given that Humphreys, Clarke, Johnson and Greaves can all play LB if needed, I find it interesting that we are now working on Baggott in that position as well. I think most of us predict Baggott to go out on loan this season, but it would be a little odd for us to start working on a positional change for him now if we are going to loan him out in a few weeks’ time, when any interested loan club would surely be looking to use him as a CB. Will be interesting to see if he gets any more minutes at LB during the rest of preseason.
Baggott at LB on 08:50 - Jul 22 with 3446 views | JakeITFC | Often the way that ideas from the big teams filter down - I wonder if we see the advantage of having the option of having centre backs playing wide (ala Man City with Ake/Gvardiol, Arsenal with White/Timber/soon to be Calafori) as an option at times this season? We've definitely had that profile on the right with Clarke and Tuanzebe, so I guess we could potentially flip it with Baggott on the left and Johnson at RB. It's probably more likely that it's just getting as many players out for pre-season games as possible! Leif clearly number one but needs a genuine deputy imo - his/our best work on that side came with Leigh as his understudy and I'd worry if we gave him another season of intense 90s every week.
Baggott at LB on 08:57 - Jul 22 with 3360 views | PioneerBlue | I am not reading too much into this. He is quite young. Many players in our squad can play or cover more than one position. Whether for us, or more likely a loan, being a bit more versatile might be a deciding factor for another team. Or, as you’ve suggested perhaps we do see him being a finisher to give LD rest and our asymmetric set up a switch.

Baggott at LB on 09:32 - Jul 22 with 2849 views | norfsufblue | Elksn Baggott in my opinion is a high class player and has it all.... I would rather let Keiran McKenna develop him within this squad thsn trust him to anyone else.... I also expect us to have other tricks up our sleeve tactically this year, wold be at all surprised to see Leif having more cover for him to bomb forward and maybe EB could provide that?

I haven't seen him play over the last year, but even on the basis of what I saw the year before and in cup games, I thought he's got everything in his locker. He was very strong, seemed to have a turn of pace, and importantly looked very calm on the ball. If we were still in Div2 I would have expected him to stay and challenge Burgess, if he's progressed well last year too I would have no problem with him staying even in Div1. My feel is that we have such good skills coaching and awareness development here that a strong-minded player might be better off staying here, even at the expense of lack of game time. Al-Hamadi fits that mould for me too. Is there a Premier League reserve competition these days?

Baggott at LB on 09:52 - Jul 22 with 2608 views | Freddies_Ears | When Baggott popped up in the oppo box, he looked quite comfortable so far up the field. Spurs tried Van de Ven, who is very much a LCB, at LWB a few times late last season, with some success (he has ridiculous pace, though Baggott is no slouch). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

You only get to play PL2 if you have Cat 1 academy. 26 clubs by last count. Norwich still get to play PL2 level which is why we are still catching up on youth development.

Baggott at LB on 10:02 - Jul 22 with 2432 views | _clive_baker_ | Think of the dough as well. If Baggott got some minutes in the premier league and looked at home, then we've got a 21/22 year old on our hands who could be the Beckham of Indonesia. A handsome mofo from a football mad country with a population not dissimilar to USA. Clearly the priority will be his ability to step up to that level, which would be quite a jump having never played above L1, but he's certainly an exciting prospect. The best move for his development would probably be a Championship loan where he'll play 30 odd times next season, but there's certainly merit in keeping him around if we think he can offer useful versatility and keep improving in what is now a premier league environment. Just being in and around that every day and playing in cup games will be hugely beneficial for his development. [Post edited 22 Jul 2024 10:04]

If he is good enough he is old enough. We need to give him a chance here. Just being around the first team for an extended period will benefit everyone pls hopefully an e tended fun in League Cup to give him game time. If need be can be loaned out in January.

Underlines the problem we have in bringing academy players on.

Baggott at LB on 11:34 - Jul 22 with 1750 views | Len_Brennan | I thought he had a great pre-season last summer, but he did need to play matches for his development, and I think the same again this season. I do believe that McKenna want to give our young players a chance, but such has been our rise over the last 2 years, ot is tough to give them that opportunity. Baggott definitely has a chance, but like Al Hamadi, a season of playing Championship matches on a regular basis would be great for him (& us) if possible.
