Ronnie Barker is my choice.

Surprised Arthur Lowe and Richard Beckinsale not mentioned.

Surely it has to be Brendan O'Carroll from Mrs Brown's Boys?
</SarcasticMode>

On a side note, it was when the BBC decided to renew Mrs Brown's Boys that I decided to forgo my TV License and not use their service any more. It could be the worse sitcom I have ever seen in my life.

What equivalents do we have now. Corden!!?? Ffs.

It’s Reg Varney for his portrayal of working class, hard up, crumpet chasing bus driver Stan Butler!

I will take your Reg Varney and raise you Paula Wilcox and John Alderton for a concentrated dollop of middle class angst.

Red Dwarf is an absolutely amazing series, especially the first 5/6 seasons.

Found out the other day they are recording more this autumn, which is great news

I wonder if Patrick Cargill is looking down on this thread and snorting 'Well, it is just typical that they forgot about me.'

Also - who were the cast of 'Drop the Dead Donkey?'. Not heard a dicky bird about that show since it first aired, but it was brilliant.

Paul Whitehouse. Maybe more in sketches rather than sitcoms but whenever I see him in any role he smashes it. Such a range of characters but can make you laugh and cry in the same scene.

(apologies if any of the list are women, only know a couple of them, and not sure how ballard identifies...)

Sorry, but if you don't know their colour, why bring the subject up?.

apologies, fair point and edited, just seems a very niche list for "best ever", i'm in my '50s and only know a couple of them!

odd to choose geoffrey palmer over his 7-times-oscar-nominated co-star for instance...
