Dont disagree re: Davies he didnt have his best game defensively . But we were discussing CBs and mu view is Greaves is a level above Woolfy and where we should be aspiring to as far as CBs go.

I wouldn't describe Woolf's performance today as poor (I thought he did some very good work over the 90' and finished up about even for +/- contribution) but I agree with your main point. Another Greaves to partner Greaves could be huge for us and we appear to be working hard in the market to bring one in.

That awful Woolfie pass you talk about was a tackle!

He was ok today was Woolfie.

Agreed, he had to make that challenge otherwise they'd have been through, was unfortunate to go where it did.

Yes, watching back it was a great challenge to prevent the run through and he was unlucky it ran through to a Liverpool player.

Woolfenden had a very good game today. The disdain and dislike fans have for him reminds me of Scowcroft's time here, albeit Woolfenden is a better player.

If you want to speak about being exposed for pace have a look at Tuanzebe again.

I thought Tuenz handled Diaz pretty well

i find it consistently strange how people on here under-rate woolfenden. it feels like i'm watching different games to some people. always very very odd.

Me too, Woolfenden was excellent today, certainly wasn't beaten by pace, so not sure why some are critical.
I know some fans like to single out one player each season.
Both goals came from our left, if both had come from the right those fans would have blamed him for both.
Greaves is certainly a classy player and excellent signing, but the consensus around me in the ground is he was as much to blame for the second goal as anyone as he was too slow going out to Salah.

However I thought the defence was excellent overall, they just lost some of the protection they had from the midfield in the second half. L'pool let Leif go forward and then deliberately targeted the ball in behind.

Overall a great performance from us, it was unfortunate as a team our energy level dropped. As Slot said, they knew Ipswich couldn't keep that energy going and would find gaps in the corners.

Really excited about the rest of the season.

As long as we don't have the stuffing knocked out of us from these first 2 games we'll be just fine. There's tonnes of positives to take from that.

Yep, agreed. But I think KM will make sure that doesn’t happen. It’s where a few more players with Prem experience would help. My fear before the game was that we’d run out of gas - pretty much what happened (as well as Liverpool having another gear to move to when we didn’t). It will be interesting to see if we come out of the traps with as much passion next week or if we temper it a little to try to hold back a little for later in the game.

I've watched the game again. Woolfy was suspect with balls over the top and was beaten for pace on three occasions. That can't happen at City next week. Edmundson would track runners better imo.

I'd play a three at the back formation next week of Tuanzebe, Fridge and Greaves. Not a hybrid of two when we attack and three when we defend, but a flat back three with Johnson and Davis as proper wing backs. I'd also drop Cajuste straight in next to Morsy if he signs in the next couple of days as Mas looked his age today.

One other change; Szmodics for Chaplin with both of them narrow tens supporting Delap.

I disagree on Woolfenden, but we obviously have different views on him. I do agree we do need to switch to a back three, and I am surprised we didn't go with this today, with the line up which played Nice last week.

If you think Woolfenden was poor then I'm not sure you were watching the same game. Was Greaves better? Yeah, ok. That doesn't make Woolfenden woeful.

It's interesting that both goals came from Davis leaving his man, yet nothing is said against him, yet Woolfenden is still the one - even now - being questioned.

That first goal was Leif's fault, pulled up with his arm up for offside instead of following his man. Not saying he had a bad game but Salah did him there.

He helped the ball into Salah's path for the second.
