Ref Watch - Definitely a penalty for us on Davies. So why no VAR involvement? 11:48 - Aug 26 with 3070 viewsKorrupt

Warnock called it a shocker. We make it 3 2...possibly a different game. Unfair in the extreme.

Even Dermot Gallagher agreed, if one was given, then both should have been given

OR we anger them by scoring again and it ends up 8-2.

It's over, let's just move on.

Poll: Which would you accept?

Then we have no one to blame but ourselves. But let the game be played on an even keal.

Poll: Who would you play at right centre back on Saturday?

It’s a tricky one to explain because it requires an understanding of how football is played and the role of a referee and VAR

The referee gives a penalty IF he thinks it’s a penalty - and not if he doesn’t. He didn’t.

VAR overules that decision if in their opinion it was clearly a penalty. Which they didn’t.

So no penalty

Putting the explanation to one side, what are thoughts on the decision making process?
Having watched the clip, do you think it should've been given?
Looked a pretty decent shout to me.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

So we can't debate something that happened at the weekend ever again?

What?
Everyone knows it wasn’t a penalty as it wasn’t given.
The question is why was it not given as it is a clear penalty.
Nothing to do with how football is played - it is about whether the VAR official is incompetent or influenced by a big club.
Simple to explain.

It will be very interesting to see if the premier league do the Match Officials Mic'd Up television show that they did last year.
It will also be interesting to see if they even actually put it in the show, which would show another level of corruption. (Only do the ones we want to do!)

Are you going to hack off Guardiola or the manager of the other big clubs? If you are interested in keeping your job reffing in the PL, of course not.

I went to a talk by a former Premier League ref some years ago now and he talked particularly about Ferguson and Man U and he confirmed the above. It’s basic human nature at play when it comes to marginal decisions. They control your future. Unfair? Yes, but that’s how it is in the Premier League.

Wolves complained about always being on the wrong end of VAR last season. I’ve no idea if they are right, but one thing is for sure. They are nothing. One of the fodder clubs so if they think they’ll ever get a fair deal from refs when it comes to the important clubs, dream on.

For them read Coventry v MU last season. Would the 3-2 decision been the same at the other end of the pitch? Of course not. Everyone knows that. The last thing wanted was grubby little Coventry soiling the FA Cup Final, even if the big clubs don’t care about it.

Yes, we should have had a penalty, not that it would have made any difference.

Frustration for me was the inconsistency. I wouldn’t have had a problem if neither penalty had been awarded by VAR, because I can see why VAR didn’t rule the Davis one as a clear and obvious error, but by that metric City certainly shouldn’t have had one either. To overturn one but not the other makes no sense to me

I think we're kidding ourselves if we think it had any impact on the outcome of the game, but I agree it was a penalty. I don't know how it can be deemed to have not been a foul and would expect us to be asking for an explanation.

Wrong. VAR can advise the ref to check the pitch side monitor to review the incident. Much like the Man City pen. VAR did not over rule the ref on it, they suggested he review it and he made his own decision after viewing a replay.
