Ipswich 0 VAR 2 on 17:40 - Aug 26 by Leaky | Surely if the ref reviewed it and Davis foul was on the line it should be a free kick on the edge of our penalty area not a pen. They dont give a goal unless the whole ball crosses the line. Surely a penalty should be the same |
No, on the line is in the area as per the rules. Just as how you describe, the whole of the ball has to have crossed the line for it to no longer be in play inside the area but be in the goal. If a foul was committed on the goalline between the posts, what award would you suggest if you are saying the line is neither inside the area nor the goal?

Ipswich 0 VAR 2 on 12:30 - Aug 26 by Nthsuffolkblue | The referee was fine. On neither occasion did he see it as a penalty and from his position I can understand that. VAR saw the slowed down replay and saw that not only did Davis foul but it was on the line and therefore a penalty. How it didn't look at the foul on Davis and decide it was one too, I don't know. From the ref's angle, I can understand why he didn't give either in real time. As stated above, the referee does not refer decisions to VAR. VAR advises the referee to have a second look when they believe he has made a clear mistake or not seen something. |
It was odd the Ref blew the whistle for the Man City one but didn’t give a decision. Just blew the whistle. What did he blow for?

He very belatedly pointed for a goal kick, prior VAR getting involved.

Ipswich 0 VAR 2 on 15:11 - Aug 26 by BlueBoots | Pretty much confirmed in the match commentary (said that VAR had looked at the foul on Davis, and had told the referee while Man City were breaking that it didn't need checking). But as others have said, how they can do that after looking at the foul committed by Davis and advising the referee to take a look at that one on screen really stinks of big-club bias - suppose it's something we'll have to get used to. Going back to the Liverpool game, also looked a bit fishy that they drew a line on the screen for the Liverpool offside, but didn't for ours! |
If they're going to stick with VAR then it needs to be transparent. Somehow they have to come up with something like cricket where you get to hear their reasoning and responses.

VAR cannot review yellow card offenses outside the box. It couldn't have been used to get burns sent off for a second yellow. Yes, he was lucky but it was just because of poor reffing not VAR.

Ipswich 0 VAR 2 on 12:21 - Aug 26 by EastTownBlue | Eh ? The ref doesn't get to select when VAR gets involved or not on decisions. Both the ref and VAR messed up. |

Totally agree. Even better if we had screen in screen view to see who makes these decisions. The final outcome has to be seen as fair and not biased, because at the moment it most definitely is not. It only took one replay of 5 seconds of each incident for blind Freddy to see both were nailed on penalties. Why did Man City get theirs and Ipswich miss out. I have no confidence in a system that appears corrupt.
