Talk of players moving on this season and ruthlessness... 13:55 - Aug 27 with 4262 viewsitfcjoe

...admittedly they were squad options, but look at league starts last season

Hladky (46)

Edmundson (10)
Jackson (9)
Harness (7)
Taylor (7)
Donacien (3)
Ladapo (2)
Al-Hamadi (1)
Ball (1)

Those not getting new contracts, and likely not fitting into the 25 man squad this summer weren't good enough to start games in the Championship.

The 8 senior players, of which most likely 7 won't be in the 25 man squad, started 40 games between them, less than Hladky managed.

Whilst I appreciate they've played their part, it was like the year before where we last Edwards, Leigh etc - they weren't good enough to start at the level below we are now at

Sadly (because they were part of such a tight knit squad for the last 2 great years) there's no room for sentimentality. We have to try to change what's needed to stay in the league.

So yeah, I agree and I also agree with those on your list. It's a shame - there's some real characters there who played their part and also come across as great blokes. But anyone let go/moved on will know the score. They're all senior pros and know how cutthroat it is.

When we played Fulham in the League Cup last season the gulf was clear to see. Yes we were not at full strength and picked up a bit once the game was settled in their favour. I think this more than highlighted the need to McKenna that in a lot of positions we just weren't good enough. This applied from Division One to the Championship where several players such as Ladapo who was a vital cog in Division One didn't get a look in. To be honest Chaplin wasn't as effective in the Championship as when in Division One. This is not having a go at those players as we loved them as we did Kayden Jackson. A model professional . It is highly likely that one or two plucked from the Championship for this season will either find it hard or not make the grade.

In another post during the off-season I gave the minutes
Hladky (4140, 1st)
Harness (968, 15th)
Jackson (959, 16th)
Edmundson (889, 17th)
Taylor (875, 18th)
Ladapo (341, 21st)
Al-Hamadi (282, 23rd)
Donacien (217, 24th)
Ball (141, 26th)

It's worth noting that the majority of these players were somewhat replaced last season:
• Taylor and Ball were behind Travis
• Harness was behind Sarmiento
• Ladapo and Al-Hamadi were behind Moore
• Jackson was behind Hutchinson
• Donacian was behind Williams

The thing about that Fulham game is we might not have been at full strength, but neither were they, and they still completely outplayed us which highlighted we had a core group of good players, but not an equivalent squad, hence purchasing a whole bunch if players since
