Shouldn't the Brighton player have been sent off for deliberately kicking Rice? I can see why the ref sent Rice off for kicking the ball away but the greater offence was surely the Brighton playing kicking him.
It can easily be argued that he wasn't trying to kick Rice who steps across to nudge the ball away. I also don't think he would have made contact with Rice if it wasn't for Rice's actions.

What, so the Brighton player was trying to welly the moving ball away? This thread is bizarre

People are quick to point out that Declan Rice 'knew what he was doing'. If so, it's a huge strain to suggest Veltman didn't know exactly what he was doing too. Rice was looking at the ref most of the time, and only glanced down at the ball as he was walking away and nudged it (kicked is too strong a word).
A reasonable ref would have had a chat with both of them, and maybe booked Veltman. If they're really wanting to get their cards out, send them both off. Just giving Rice a second yellow was bizarre.

Agreed, if he was going to be card happy then both should have gone. Veltman clearly knew what he was doing.

Isn't that the proof in point though. All anyone is able to say about Veltman is that he "knew what he was doing" an interpretation. Whereas it's pretty clear what Rice did kicking the ball away, which is why he got booked and Veltman didn't get punished.

He was clearly deliberately kicking Rice, that's what I mean by he knew what he was doing! That it wasn't done accidentally.
The mistake by the ref was not yellow carding the Brighton player for blasting the ball away in the first half when it was clearly out for a throw in.
I dont know what the rules say regarding that, but given there is a multiball system it's not like him kicking the ball down the line was delaying anything. Whoever went to take the throw still had a ball or two to choose from in the vicinity of the throw in. Would have felt harsh to book him, for me.

Clear look at the incident here.
The Brighton player actually looks up the field as if to see where he is going to send the free-kick, but is that all part of the act as he must know he can't kick a moving ball.

He'd rolled the ball, it was about to stop.
He rolled the ball into Rice (it has already touched Rice before he nudged it away), Rice was still going to be there whether he nudged it away or not and the kick was nearly knee high. Other than that though, he was definitely just trying to take the free kick
