(Or paid?) or (reality) sharing an article that is more articulate but not dissimilar to my opinion regarding the platform. And one i thought others may wish to read. Rather grouchy and it may be time for a coffee for the first reviewer of the day. (BTW-it's not that time everywhere in the world) [Post edited 5 Sep 6:32]

Farting on a newspaper article (without any analysis even), is just zombie behaviour. It's understood now you read the grain, and have legitimate ethical concerns about that nasty x. Basically you're just regurgitating one side of the latest culture war crap. The way they make people care about this bobbins which is really actually very disassociated with people's real lives and needs... is they get you to share it among yourselves.

This is a good example of why some people should avoid online platforms when they are full of anger. and had little sleep. This might be your self believing powerful act of the day that gives you a voice and agency in a world where no one otherwise listens or engages with you. This is not X.
Racism, misogyny, lies: how did X become so full of hatred? And is it ethical to on 09:03 - Sep 5 with 3385 views | Guthrum | Not read the article, but the problem with this kind of headline is that the same can be - and has been - said about the internet as a whole, books, TV, newspapers music and every other sort of wide-circulation media. There will always be an element, often a noisy one, of extreme and/or offensive material. But the vast bulk of content is mundane. Bland, even. The same with X. Most of it is just people Tweeting about their daily lives, self-publishing ordinary stuff or information about on-going events. Or it can be a conduit to get word out of information-restricted parts of the world, e.g. war zones, or places under oppressive regimes. Or to highlight abuses. But, as always, there will be a (quite small) element of the less pleasant, or deliberately provocative, making noise. Noise which is accentuated by a polarised and febrile political atmosphere. This perception not helped by the antics of Musk himself. The real question is "How did humanity get so racist, misogynist and full of hatred?" The answer partly being in the other of those four words - lies and people's willingness to unquestioningly consume them. Often because they don't get taught how to appraise and avoid them. The rest of it is about fear and human nature's desire to be part of a group (with implied exclusion of "others").

I don't think there is more "How did humanity get so racist, misogynist and full of hatred' I do think more people critically think and analyse information but also there is so much more consumption of information and because of this attention is stretched and short easy answers ( and headlines) try to cut thru the noise and are often used as answers or rationale. It is what it is must be the modern phrase that sums up not wanting to engage any deeper than the superficial.

"How did humanity get so racist, misogynist and full of hatred?" what a strange question for someone so well read in history. pick a period which in which racism, misogyny and hatred were absent. my bet would be that humanity is less racist, less misogynist and less full of hatred than at any point in history. the interconnectedness brought by the internet and social media has broken down many traditional boundaries and divisions and a huge majority have been welcoming of that. it is a remarkably inclusive technology. the problem with twitter is the architecture which acts to accentuate conflict and magnify the voice of essentially malign actors. it is open to manipulation and in amplifying particular voices effectively shouts down broader discussion. no platform should permit incitement to violence or criminality. the trouble is that once you get beyond excluding incitement into excluding 'misinformation' and 'hatred' those concepts get mixed up with 'stuff i personally disagree with'.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

I believe this is the case and because of her background, the article is not worth a fart? I believe the journalist is also Welsh. And so a minority in the UK. Her privilege only goes so far. I hope you didn't follow thru with that fart. ,

I imagine she normally writes about dilemmas such as what to do with youngsters in Tuscany or where to source good Brie outside of France. She should stick to that.

But probably not about Feminism? Williams writes about her personal life from a feminist perspective, such as her marriages, motherhood, and her abortion.

Indeed. I was retaining the rhetorical form of the original headlne to contrast between "X" and "humanity". I also think it comes and goes in waves. There is currently an upswell in the use of bigotry as a political tool. Remains to be seen whether this is the last hurrah of older thought forms, or if it gains any real, lasting traction (e.g. the popularity of Trump among young men in the US).

I think the point re X specifically is that since Musk took over there is the active promotion of racism, misogyny and lies. It's not just a case of there being an element of that sort of thing being present as per the wider Internet or society.
