Well I'm happy with our start 10:37 - Sep 23 with 4915 viewsAsa

Seen so much flouncing after Saturday, especially on social media. On levels that are spectacular for us. As if any away game in the Premier League is a gimme.

We were off it and not our usual selves and still came away with a point from a team that was pretty much our equal last season after the first 5-6 games of the season.

Man City and Brighton away. Liverpool at home. Even Fulham, who we deserved to beat and who were a 95th minute West Ham equalizer away from being 6th in the table. They've just beaten Newcastle comfortably.

We have as many points as the bottom three combined, aren't in the relegation zone and have scored in three matches, kept out a very good Brighton side already come back from the death to take points when below par. Whilst bedding in half a new side.

Very satisfied with the start. Another tough one Sunday. Did say it could be 10-12 games in before we start picking up proper points and in the meantime it's about not losing, picking up a point here and there and winning the winnable home games and taking what we can away.

We could have beaten Fulham, could even have nicked it at Brighton, probably win on Saturday if we weren't well off it.

Yet only Liverpool and Man City have been able to beat us.

I'm happy with being unbeaten in our own version of the Premier league. We weren't going to get anything from the first two, it was all about the season starting after man city and we've remained unbeaten since. Not only that but played 2 very established sides in that time.

I do wonder however what is our strongest lineup

I feel like we gave about 4 players that should all be playing on the right... Burns. Ogbene. Hutchinson. Delap..
With szmodics needing to go into the middle and hirst uptop ( granted risky as no third striker of quality)
Yet clarke doesn't seem to be trusted to start on the left.

So im a bit puzzled by that really. What is our actual strongest lineup and attacking wise are we using players correctly or is this the little thing that's hurting us in that aspect of our game.

It absolutely would be.

It would be a pretty incredible achievement actually. I know we have spent cash, but we went back to back. Our squad value will still be lowest, wage budget as well. Finishing 17th would be superb.

It probably doesn’t sound very ambitious, but having done back to back promotions like you said,it will do this season and a great result at that.

Only of course if we are a few points from 18th on the last game and safe on that day,can you imagine the pain of it all !

One thing you're not factoring in is this is a very new team. Players like Clarke aren't ready to start yet. Many others are still learning the McKenna way. It'll come in time, and then we'll know our strongest line up (which isn't the full story anyway, as our finishers are just as important as our starters).

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Hi, why do you think Clarke is not ready to start?

He's been with us several weeks, and the same as O'Shea who has started twice now, plus was away for Internationals; and Ogbene who has also started already.

Was he injured when he arrived?

Well going by Saturday, I think someone said on here, or it was on Blue Monday, that he looked a bit lost/wasn't sure what to do. He doesn't seem to track back as well as some either, but admittedly we haven't seen a lot of him to gauge.

Ogbene I think only started because of Burns being injured. I don't think there's any issue or injuries with these players, it'll just take time to get fully up to speed with what the manager wants of them (and getting to know where teammates will be etc.) Just a bit of time/practice required, IMO.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It seems like most of us are on the same page here which is good.

The start has been ok. We've shown positive traits in all of the games we've played. We've taken points in all game outside of the likely title contenders. We've defended well when it matters, scored a couple of great goals, and Muric has generally been very solid. We've shown a lot which suggests that relegation won't be a formality.

However, if we are to stay up we need to improve from the level we are currently showing. There is plenty of reason to believe the improvements will come - a trend of the McKenna era is that it takes new players some time to bed into the team and get used to the system, but also that once that happens the team is much more than the sum of its parts. The question is how long can we wait before that needs to happen - we need to start getting some wins on the board before long. We can't rely on a long post-christmas purple patch like we have done for the last two seasons.

Whatever happens, this season should be a free shot for McKenna. He has outperformed massively, we will be one of the favourites for promotion in 25/26 if we do go down, which is probably still ahead of where he was asked to get us four years into his reign.
