Noticeable how little of our play went down our right hand side with him on the pitch whereas we played numerous balls over the top to Davis on the left.

Ogbene has got pace but we didn’t seem to want to use him which left him isolated and gave Villa no problems down that side in the first half. He’s looked ok in other games so not sure what was going on there today - Burns was much more involved when he came on.

He seemed confused about his position and reluctant to get forward.
We were in a 343 shape at times with him and Davis at wing backs, but Ogbone seemed to be playing more as a full back too often

Their right back position is a known issue so i assume we targeted it somewhat.

I would say Burns should be the starter because he's 'better' than Ogbene at the moment, he's more dynamic and knows our style better...

But then again we're a team that goes deep into games and Burns comes on and goes close to getting a winner, so it almost worked out perfectly.

Did think Ogbene was our clear weakness though. I felt both wings were where we struggled the most in fact but Clarke really came into the game nicely later into the second half.

Thought that was his best outing to date for us so far. No more than solid for me - thought his work rate and pressing was very good though. I think it’s evident that Clarke is going to be the bigger player for us, but Ogbebe does add some depth and PL experience.

First half Kieran was coaching him constantly, not wanting him to get forward and instead tucking in as the defence moved across to allow leif to get forward with Clarke. It’s fascinating watching us play, tactically Kieran made a few tweaks in game, 2nd half dropping Philips in to the back line in transition and pulling out Greaves wider to open up passing lanes.

Indeed. Its important. Og was sacrificed a bit to open the other side. Villa had to be wary of his speed and stop those long out balls, which left them less interested in the left...

For large parts of the 1st half especially he was basically playing right back with the defence shifting slightly to the left. I assumed it was a deliberate tactic by McKenna to allow Davis to move forward. Which I felt worked as Davis gave them problems all game

Was partly at fault for the first goal though. I know Greaves shoulders most of the blame but the ball should never have got into our box in the first place - he was muscled off the ball way too easily in the build up.

It’s early days with him, but my first impression (which is rather supported by what Luton fans say) is that for a guy with so much pace he really doesn’t like taking on a full back, which does limit what he can offer us going forward

I don't think it was reluctance as he was making runs forward but we didn't play him in.

He did spend most time tho holding back. I think this was planned so that davis could get forward more.

a niche perspective

Think this is a really good example of how as fans we often judge a player without understanding what he's been told to do and it's interesting to hear your comments on what McKenna was coaching him to do.

Like many I was hoping for him to be taking his man on more and using his pace to get forward but if his role was to open the left hand side and keep us solid defensively then he's not going to be doing that!
