Thought he brought some momentum when he came on.

Another nice little cameo from him

Not sure why he has had his doubters.

He is perfectly comfortable.

We look so much better when we are on the front foot.
Taylor adds that.
Phillips, not so much.
In fact, I'm not so sure what Phillips adds that Luongo didn't.
But I'm not a manager, so I'm sure it'll come clear in time.

Tbf to him that was a brilliant effort. He offered us a lot more directness which i felt we lacked at times. He has the lee Evans ping about him

Yeah there seems to be at times

Thought today he looked the part during his brief appearance

Not sure he’s a starter but definitely has the legs to cause issues with 15-20 mins to go

Very pleased to be proved wrong. I was surprised to see him preferred to Luongo but did think that would be because Taylor offers more attacking threat. I agree he looked comfortable today.

Phillips can last more than 10 minutes in the prem for starters. Not luongos fault btw.. so age isn't kind to him.

Really? Phillips is a massive upgrade on Luongo in every respect. Much as I love Mass!

When the ball came to him for a shot 20 yards out I really thought he would score. Struck it well but Martinez took it comfortably. You’re right, he was very effective for his 20 minutes though.

Superb. Really brave offering himself for the ball at every opportunity, never goes hiding. Dragged us up the pitch, good decision making. Very impactful cameo yet again.

Ah mate we’re in the premier league now. Not sure if you are aware.

To be comfortably pulling strings in the centre midfield in the PL is different than doing it in the championship.

So if Phillips is offering the same as Mass did last year then it’s a very good thing.

Being brutally honest.... I thought he underwhelmed in the Championship. Thought he gave the ball away too easily and was inconsistent. It was all set up for him to displace Mass but he didn't take his chance. Thought he'd move on in the summer.

Good luck to him. Hes holding his own in his little cameos.

I have never doubted him. I think he is more than capable at this level. He will be learning from Phillips every day in training and will be the natural to replace him should he not stay beyond this season.

Did really well today. I was surprised when he came on but he got the team moving forward again.
Thought he would be let go after last season, but maybe he's more suited to the Prem than the Champ

Maybe I should qualify my 'worst comment ever' comment.

I feel that Morsy-Luongo worked better as a partnership than Morsy-Phillips do (at the moment).
I know Morsy-Luongo played together for so long that they could read each other's game, so my point is, what - specifically -does Phillips add to the team that is worth more than losing that understanding?
I get that Luongo is slower, and struggles to last the pace, but surely there's more?

I want to be educated, as I haven't watched Phillips play in the past.
Does Phillips add better tackling / passing / shooting than Luongo or Cajuste or Taylor?
Or all of those in one player?
What do the stats say?

Anyway, peace and love to you all.

Well...

Phillips can turn faster then luongo
He can run faster than luongo
He can pass a ball short or long better than luongo
He sees dangers before they happen
He looks around before he receives the ball and knows where he's going before he gets it
He directs defenders
He gets stuck in
He stands off when needed
He tracks runners

Working with Morsy. Morsy has protection should he go forward. Phillips has protection if he does.

Morsy and loungo was a good partnership but we are at a much different level now and Phillips is better than luongo in every aspect of the game.

That's not a slight on luongo. Just how it is

Taylor was brilliant and the second goal was more his assist than Omari’s.

He’s definitely raised his game which unfortunately does leave Luongo very much as backup, having not done much wrong.

That said Morsy clearly will miss at least 6 games through suspension this season so we’ll need that backup.

But the comment about Phillips not adding much. Unbelievable!! He was superb in that first half against an exceptional Villa midfield.

If you couldn’t see that you have even less footballing knowledge than the two Ipswich ‘fans’ who did the quiz at half time.
