Removed thread 09:25 - Oct 4 with 9748 views | PhilTWTD | Got rid of it as it had become the source of several complaints on a number of fronts, quite reasonably for the most part. Perhaps a bit more thought when posting on sensitive subjects and a lot less antagonism.

Haven’t worked out which post has been removed but sometimes I get the impression people set out to deliberately derail a thread. Hopefully those involved receive a yellow card and a warning as to future conduct. I am certain some posters are regularly involved in events leading to a thread being removed. I am grateful for Phil’s patience as I’m sure he never wants to remove threads.

We already get enough of that conflict on all news channels every time we switch on.

I would say it is more than one poster at this point.

So far we've had 13 pages of good-natured discourse and harmony there. We don't agree on everything on that thread but opposing opinions have so far been dealt with in a respectful way. For many of us it's a safe zone where we can retreat to at TWTD when passions and tetchiness rise in other threads.

I think banning long-term posters having a serious pop at each other is much harder than banning someone randomly popping up to have a pop. Instead of returning the pop, maybe posters should pop out so that the popping doesn’t escalate.

It wouldn’t be popular amongst the populist population. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Trouble is, for some posters once they've popped they can't stop.

There's only one who posts new threads on the same subject on an almost daily basis though.

Maybe 'turbo posting' should be looked at more than the individual then. It has long since made a lot of football discussions quite negative and unbearable

Not disagreeing with your primary observation but the threads aren’t being deleted just because of that. They are all circular arguments with two opposite and entrenched views being repeated by the same posters who have no interest in finding common ground.

I think Phil once mentioned on a thread pull that certain topics may be best left off the forums if civility can't exist. I think there are clearly some subjects that we have failed to self-moderate and the prospect of those topics not being posted on TWTD should be revisited

Agree with that, as it's happened a hundred times in the past (literally), even though I didn't see this particular thread.

I think the biggest problem isn't people getting involved in heated debates in itself, even repeated ones on the same subject. Its more running off to Phil to report abuse - if you want a robust debate or a thread becomes narky, then either carry on and accept the crap that comes your way, or back out. Sorry if I've offended anyone I like, but come on! [Post edited 4 Oct 2024 12:37]

I know this is a place for Ipswich fans to discuss anything but it only ends with the same people going round and round in circles. There are other places people can discuss it on the internet if they want to.

Don't discount the fact that some people who are not involved in the debate are reading things that challenge their own point of view. Phil has said before that he can't moderate what he hasn't seen yet - so in that instance, I would expect people will be more inclined to point out if something racially/sociologically/ethically/religiously distasteful is posted.

I’ve often wondered why, with those extra fingers, more boxers don’t come from Norfolk.
