Went to watch Town up at Oldham in the 80's. Was in a social club next to the ground talking to some bloke who was very knowledgeable about the game at that time. Turned out it was one of the Futcher brothers. Both played for Oldham in their careers . Can't remember if it was Ron or Paul. Sadly Paul died young,60, of cancer. Both played for Luton.

I used to tend the garden for Rick Wakeman. My brother years ago spent several months doing electrical work for Bill Wyman and had no idea who he was until they had finished the job
Miss Slave used to do Alf Garnett's garden and currently gardens for a former French Open winner.

That one now reminds me that I held the door of Nottingham's ice rink open for Jayne Torville once.
I also played tennis on the next court to Steve Davis and went swimming with John Barnes.
None of these can live up to teaching Mick Stockwell's son and Gary Durrant's as well. I also taught the daughter of Peter Wright (darts player as no one will know who he is anymore).
My mate was playing tennis at Nottingham tennis centre earlier this evening and Nuno Espirito was playing on next court and keep whacking ball into their court

I once held a door open for Ritchie Havens (opening act in the 'Woodstock' film but not at the actual festival) as he was due to be interviewed at Reading Sports Centre as part of WOMAD ~ but he said 'after you' and I said 'no, after you', the he said 'after you' and I had to say 'please, AFTER YOU.'
After his interview he appeared on one of the smaller stages at the festival but was very genial and commented that he and the band were glad to get an invitation to play anywhere at that stage in their career. The only sour note came when he told a tale of the early sixties in Greenwich Village and some young folk singer discussing a set of lyrics that Havens couldn't quite get right, next thing he knows this young folk singer has come up with a song that incorporated the lyrics and copyrighted it. The next song Havens played was 'All Along The Watchtower'' So when Ritchie Havens died I posted this story on Bob Dylan's Wikipedia page. Within a couple of hours I got an email from Wikipedia's lawyer telling me that if I ever did anything like that again I would get banned...
I had the pleasure of picking up Robert Edwards, pioneer of IVF treatment in 2007, in my taxi as he made his way home to Madingley. He'd just been awarded an Honoury degree from Huddersfield which he was made up about as it was his his patch. Very friendly and thoroughly nice bloke who said he was glad his work was done prior to social media because of the grief and abuse he'd have got. But he'd still got a load back in the day and he'd have coped and cracked on regardless.
I nearly trod in a steaming pile left by David Blunkett’s dog.
He was speaking at some conference or other and I was mooching through for the usual terrible coffee after Blunkettmeiester and his Labrador had gone by. And just spotted it. A little swerve in the crowd and disaster avoided.
Not so lucky was the bloke behind. Squelch and an accompanying ‘oh f#ck!’. Not many places to wipe dogsh£t off your shoes in a conference hall. I guess he just had to live with the aroma until he got home and could remove it on the front room carpet (see Billy Connolly). Hey ho.

Also...my Dad's friend is a former professional ice skater who was UK Southern Area Pairs champion at the same time as her friends 'Jayne and Chris' were Northern Area champions.

I live near Robin Cousins
My ex~wife once had Claire Rayner's daughter help her carrying a roll of vinyl flooring home (on the tube.) I think it was the young Rayner who had a hopeless crush on Robin Cousins (barking up the wrong tree allegedly.)

One of my best mates is now mates with Tyson Fury as a result of working with him professionally in the media.
I did a speed awareness course with Bill Turnbill after he got caught speeding shortly after he moved to Suffolk to become a bee keeper.
Bill nigh was a regular at my nans pub in Leiston. They exchanged Christmas cards for many years afterwards.
I saw Bill Nighy in a coffee shop in Woodbridge in late December 1999. Clearly a fan of east Suffolk.
On the gardening subject, during my teenage years I used to do basic gardening for an old lady whose son was Neil Harman, at the time tennis correspondent of the Daily Mail and later The Times. Reading his Wikipedia entry, it seems that he had to jack that in following a plagiarism scandal.
