Watkins and Solanke.... on 19:07 - Oct 10 by Bloots | ....must be delighted to realise that he'd rather play with no natural centre forward than play one of them. It's square pegs in round holes again. It will probably work fine tonight, but as soon as we play a decent team we'll get found out, as usual. |
It appears you were right.

Bellingham starting up front..... on 06:27 - Oct 11 with 696 views | franz_tyson | Cant see this working with Carsley. The media will take him to the cleaners. He could be a perfectly competent coach, but he hasn't got the background and charisma for this job. Doesn't bode well he's trying already to shoe-horn certain players into the side as opposed to square pegs, square holes. Last week he was musing that Cole Palmer could be a left back option..... is he trying too hard to make an impact rather than just maje simple, sensible football decisions?

Each to their own, obviously.... on 19:28 - Oct 10 by Plums | or alternatively... an appointment years in the making (as with Southgate) that results in a marked improvement in our international tournament outcomes. |
On the one hand, the continuity that comes with promoting within has improved our tournament outcomes but on the other hand, we keep coming up short in the final stages against elite coaches who manage to outthink our less experienced managers when it really matters.

Bellingham starting up front..... on 14:58 - Oct 11 with 455 views | rickw | I didn't mind Carsley trying something different but it was clear in the first half it wasn't working and we were lucky to still be level, so I assumed he'd address that at half time... I think he could have played all of Bellingham, Palmer and Foden, if you had Bellingham in midfield and Foden on the left wing, I know Foden on the left didn't work before but that was with Kane up front, with Watkins there always looking to run in behind it may have worked better. The system in his first 2 games worked well mainly because it was a balanced team, last night couldn't have been further away from that! Both full backs kept going into midfield leaving just 2 players in defence, last time we had Colwill at left back leaving a back 3 - which is similar to what we do with Tuanzebe staying back when Davis bombs on.

please play players for England in positions where they are comfortable & have shown their best. Yes, modern players are supposed to be adaptable, but Palmer is playing so well that it seems dumb to deny him his best position. Rather like when Don Revie picked Charlie George for an England friendly, put him on the left wing & subbed him off after 60 unproductive minutes. He never played for England again.
