Will the new stand go over the road or just cover it? 16:33 - Oct 22 with 4940 viewsMullet

I’m assuming they won’t need the road for the multi storey directly behind the stand. It’s also limit the design somewhat I guess having allow for essentially a tunnel too.

An aquatics centre and the potential for what I assume might be some sort of events space will be good for the town. A good way to make the space make money outside of match days. It’s something lots of clubs up here do like Bolton and Wigan for example. Especially with the hotel allowing them to appeal to more markets.

I guess the worry is it being another chapter in our history where we redevelop and it harms us, but you’d think this administration and the nature of the Prem money means there’s a bigger cushion to future proof all this.

I wonder if they will follow what Villa did with the Witton Lane stand - that went over the road when they built the upper tier. Had to negotiate with the council first I believe but it did make life easier as the lower tier did not need demolishing

I wonder if we do something like this?

Very close. The new Cobbold stand is in the video for the aquatics centre, and it looks quite similar to the Selhurst Park example with a curved back (assuming that's the actual design).

If that video above is right, the road is going and will be partly covered by the new stand plus pedestrian access bhind it. It looks really smart.

The plans as published showed a curve in what would be the old straight PRoad. Assuming that is the preferred design and the purchased land isn’t for the over road structure it seems like a waste of prime space within the stand if they were to continue PR through it. As to whether they can start the build from the rear whilst keeping in place existing seating to minimise games lost to lower crowds that for a construction expert!

MA suggested recently we’d lose 4K seats for 18 months. Cobbold stand must hold more like 7k? What does the 4K refer to? Lower and part of upper. That could suggest the plan is to start the build from the back, or perhaps we are able to pause away fans for a year then tuck all our other fans in anywhere they can? Expect not.
