Also, much admiration for Fani Willis, who has built the case against him and continued with it despite receiving appalling death threats, etc.

How he is even standing is beyond belief However, talking to Americans (wealthy ones in ski areas) about him and seeing their media, the latter is infatuated about him. They want to see nobody else. The Americans themselves? They connect to him - well the rich republicans do, not least because they believe the Democrats will take their money off them. Somebody told me his McDonalds ‘shift’ was done in a closed restaurant serving to his supporters / team. Man of the people eh?

Moreover, money extends the legal process. All decisions are challengeable, every aspect of evidence is up for debate, cases can be sent back to lower courts to reconsider. It's all just massively protracted. That's without politically partisan judges not wanting to even start hearings until after the election.

She admittedly had a bounce when she replaced Biden, but that bounce appears to be fading. [Post edited 24 Oct 2024 11:22]

From what I've seen of her she doesn't come across as particularly inspiring, and importantly, doesn't seem to have much to say. Other than to attack Trump.

That's right, and the impression I get is that the more people see her the less people like her. Her running mate is much more animated and engaging and would have been a better choice, not least because he doesn't have the Biden baggage. Add in the loss of voters over Gaza, and the move of Latinos to Trump, it's not looking good.

For her to win she needs swing voters out in force, and I can't see her doing that. Unfortunately for the USA I can't see past a Trump victory.

Were you working as an analyst for CNN last night? That was pretty much their reaction to her performance in a live town hall interview. (Was supposed to be a debate but dementia Don chickened out). “She’s not presidential enough” was the main thrust. She’s not a racist, adjudicated rapist, a con man, habitual liar, someone who mocks the disabled or indeed someone who incited a riot to overturn an election result. But yeah she’s not presidential enough.

Just to clarify, I was in no way saying that Trump is anything other than awful. I'm just not impressed with Harris and think there's a real threat of a second Trump presidency. You're much closer to the situation than me, how do you see it panning out?

Too close to call, sadly and incredibly. A lot of Americans are enticed by the fact voting for Trump is a way of stating “I hate black and brown people”.

People hold her to higher standards. Probably because Harris represents "more of the same, but done better", whereas Trump stands for "change" (even tho he didn't change that much during his previous presidency). Also because Harris is trying to persuade people she is a good candidate. Whereas Trump's supporters are either cultists, or Republicans who would never want to see a Democrat in power. With the latter two, what Trump actually does or says is largely irrelevant. He is a symbol, not a person.

I'm baffled as to how anybody could bring themselves to vote for him. It's astonishing that tens of millions will. I imagine that should Harris win things will get very ugly in the aftermath, which is quite frightening.

Going to get very messy after the voting, both sides prepared to seek ways, through the courts, to challenge the result.

The Donald Trump Program on Beeb 2 last night on 13:30 - Oct 24 with 2380 views | Oldsmoker | It seems the Polling data has been skewed by the many Republican polls that have swamped the media. These have all been produced by right-wing leaning organisations that have used polling firms who no-one has heard of before. I smell a rat. It means the average of all polls shows it a close race in the swing states. However, a leak of the GOP's own internal polling shows that they're losing in all the swing states. That leaked data also shows Texas and Florida could be flipped. However, It might not matter what the result of the Presidential election is. The House of Representatives are key. If the Republicans win the House then it could be Game Over. The first item of business is to elect a Speaker who will be a Republican as they are the majority. This happens 3 days before the vote to confirm the Presidential election on Jan 6th. On Jan 6th, the speaker, through a bit of chicanery, could prevent either candidate from getting an electoral college victory. The gives the Speaker the opportunity to trigger a contingent election. This means that the Speaker will ask each of the 50 states to vote to elect the president. There are 26 Republican states but only 22 Democrat states so Trump would be elected. The other 2 states split their votes and don't do 'winner takes all' for electoral college votes. Wyoming has just 3 electoral college votes where California has 54. In a contingent vote they have 1 vote each. This is a possible scenario, not a conspiracy theory.

I have friends who are smart, educated, successful, church-going, volunteers in the community, family-focused - basically good people - and they are not hesitating to vote for Trump. Harris “can’t be trusted” on the economy. People will always vote with their wallet, regardless of facts.

Your last point is painfully accurate about people not caring what he says or does. Strong twitter speculation the last day or so that Trump groped an underage girl at a fundraising event. And there’s video of it, allegedly. If true it would make zero difference. His supporters would literally not care. Millions of dimwitted Americans actually believe the psychotic billionaire is fighting for them.

I have two cousins in the States like that but the main reason they vote for Trump is that they would never vote for the Democrats. [Post edited 24 Oct 2024 15:06]

If I had the choice between Trump and Mr Blobby I'd vote for the pink spotty thing over the orange thing every time. If I had a choice between Trump and a below average amoeba that had really let itself go I'd vote for the amoeba. And it wouldn't be a difficult decision.

Harris has pretty much zero chance now of winning and is behind in every swing state and soon to be the national vote which is shocking TBH. Even early votes are showing massive for Trump and Biden endorsing Harris was his (or his wife's) in your face response to being shoved aside. No way on earth would the Obamas Clintons etc would have wanted her so were basically stitched up.

Its actually been the opposite for the last 3 months until recently and all polls have been weighted in favour of Democrats. Trump is on to win big and also win the House. Democrats have only themselves to blame. And zero chance Florida or Texas is even close, they will be Red by almost double digits. [Post edited 25 Oct 2024 0:15]

genuine question, where do you get your news from, always seems to be very different from most, not seen anyone predicting trump to win the national vote for instance? (apart from trump himself of course!) heard an interesting interview with a pollster about the shy trump voter problem. basically trump voters lie to pollsters or don't engage with them at all, so they underestimated in 2016 and concerned that they may have overestiated now
