Has security tightened up on drinks? 15:29 - Nov 3 with 2744 viewsZx1988

Table outside the Pioneer turnstiles yesterday, with loads of innocuous-looking drinks on it. Also seen on Twitter that someone had their water confiscated.

Has the club moved to a 'no outside drinks' policy now?

Seems to perhaps vary from turnstile to turnstile? No scanning for me, and the most cursory of looks in my bag.

I've no issue with additional security for a justifiable reason, but banning bottles of water (especially with the EADT bag deal...) feels like yet another corporate-style misstep if that is the case.

Not entry to the ground, but I saw two guys have beer bottles they were drinking forcibly taken from them by police at the entrance to the Portman Road car park. This may have been in force for ages but first time I’d seen such action taken.

Queues were massive 30 minutes before the game. Security were scanning front and back on everyone, was taking way too long, for no obvious reason.

The chap on the turnstile was twiddling his thumbs waiting for security to do there checks.

Seemed way over the top, I am in Upper North and have never seen any issues to justify this change in tact.

Why were there barriers and a parked van across the junction of Sir Alf Ramsey Way & Portman Road?
There was a huge crush there after the game with thousands of people who had been in north & west stands trying to get through. Others from the Cobbold stand were trying to go in the opposite direction. Everyone trying to get through hugely restricted spaces.
It was not the delay that concerned me, but the crush especially with a small child with me.

It seems totally unnecessary at a junction where there have been no issues before.

That's down to HSM Traffic Management who may know what they're doing when blocking off the A14 or A12 for roadworks but haven't got a clue about how to safely close roads around a football ground safely without causing unnecessary and dangerous obstructions to the thousands attending a match. They're now using H-Stop HVM barriers which are there to be a visual hostile vehicle deterrent as well as leaving their vehicles in the crowd movement area purely for their own convenience!

Security were very rude to the guy in front of me going into SAR stand, shouting for him to empty his pockets without any explanation, just wealding his magic wand like a bat. Poor old fella fumbled out his glasses case and gloves with his hands shaking. He treated him with no respect whatsoever.

I was preparing to be a bit more bolshy but he just waved me through. Not sure if that was because a queue had built up or because I'm 6'2" and he was just a bully.

Something's behind the changes, increased metal detecting and frisking, stopping bottles, anti hostile vehicle barriers obstructing crowds leaving the ground. Either it's all to do with real threats to crowd safety or it's down to some tw@t or tw@ts in a non football job at the club trying to big themselves up.

They have also stopped people leaving via the main drive. People now have to go via the practice pitch and out of the gates onto Sir Alf Ramsey way. Not a massive inconvenience (unless you have limited mobility) but it has increased the volume of fans funnelled between the buses into the traffic. Not a very sensible move from a safety perspective.

I think they have been discreetly building up for yesterday as Remembrance Match and a security risk potentially, also significant drop in flares/smoke bombs this season, something the club get alot of grief for....USBR yesterday, I was asked to empty pocket, out came a tube of smarties, what else have got, another tube of smarties.... this was repeated 7 times and the searcher was getting the hump, but I like to look after my regular stewards and the people around me.....

Feels like more BLUE ARMY (repeat ad nauseam) change related.

All part of the promised land.
