What do you think City's buy back clause for Delap is likely to be? 13:08 - Nov 15 with 5138 viewsjasondozzell

Will it be a set amount or could it be just a first option if we sell?

Obviously I hope we don't sell him ever! What a player.

That little passage of play in the second half where he reached what looked like a no chance long ball, got it under control, bounced the CBs off him, dribbled through three players and then laid it off to Omari was ridiculous.

3 times what we paid? whatever it is we had no choice as City agreed the same deal with Southampton.

When Richard Wright went to Arsenal he was an England player. They put him into the reserves and his career went downhill from there.
He would have been much better off to stay another couple of seasons with us and become the finished product by playing week in week out.
So let it be with Liam.

I was going to make a similar point. For every Tyrone Mings or Kieron Dyer whose moves to bigger clubs went well, there is always a Richard Wright or Titus Bramble whose career stalled or who never met their potential.

If those bigger teams come calling for Delap in 18-24 months time, then yes I would fully expect him to leave, but at age 21 and at the current stage of his career and development, I think his trajectory would be derailed if he was to move to a bigger club this early.

There are more than a few to whom that applies. Who of us who'd watch Wrighty develop would have guessed that his post-Town career would be so inconsequential. The same could be said for several full internationals that Town developed such as Alan Brazil, Jason Dozzell and even Russell Osman, who was still 26 when he left and had acquired 10 or so England caps, but played the rest of his many games at faltering Leicester and for an underachieving Southampton side that at one point contained Le Tis and Shearer..

Problem is you never know if a leg break is around the corner.

If you're offered £100k a week you're gonna take it.

Look at KM. All but left town until the 5 mill new contract was handed out.

Football is a money game. The only loyalty is to who is willing to pay you the most money.

All hindsight with Plug though. Seaman went back on retiring which blocked his path, then when he did get a move he had a freak accident and that was that.

He probably had more money and success at City in many ways!
