Opta still has us finishing 2nd bottom 20:11 - Nov 18 with 2427 viewsheavyweight

Seems a bit harsh, or maybe we're reading too much into the Spurs result.

I think based on all of the stats (xG etc) it’s probably hard to argue and that’s what these models take into account. What they don’t take into account is we’ve got a lot of new players bedding in, we’ve got a manager who will make up progressively more competitive as the season goes on, we’ve got battle hardened players from the last few season who don’t know when they’re beaten. As long as we’re within touching distance come January 1st I think we’ll be fine

If you can't win the League at Xmas then you can't get relegated at Xmas either.

Early days.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

They're stats not facts, these days too much are made of stats. They are a useful tool but not the holy grail.

They had us missing out on automatic promotion last season

I’ll start getting nervous once we’re not one of everyone’s favourites to go down...

Like most people I was surprised at Palace's poor start, but given where they are now, I'm surprised that this model rates them as so unlikely to go down. I don't think they will go down, but a 16.9% chance seems skinny, almost a third of the way through the season.

As for Ipswich, well, they may be underestimating us a little, but I don't think that'll worry players or fans.

I do wonder if they give extra weighting to Wolves, Palace and Everton as current Prem teams. After all, the first of those has no better record than ourselves, has also got just the one win, yet is tracking higher than Town on their graph.

All very well to talk about XG, but it is necessary to take into account whether a team is exceeding that figure in reality.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

We are a newly promoted team who have only won one game all season so I wouldn't say it is harsh at all.

I'm actually very pleased with how we are performing and think we are improving as the weeks go on. But finishing 2nd bottom wouldn't be a wild take.

You'll notice that their predictions still only rate us as 67.1% chance to go down, so over 30% of staying up. Only Southampton look certain for the drop from their analysis. Probably best to look at the percentage rather than the relative positioning.

I'm not too fussed by current stats - but we can't expect to stay up unless they improve. A few weeks ago i believe they showed us to be the worst in the Prem on virtually every metric - that's precarious. so if we've moved up a notch then that's progress! Personally i'm expecting that to continue (for all the reasons others have said) - unless injuries continue to pull us down

Not sure that equates, most teams bottom at Christmas end up getting relegated, but not all teams top of the league at Christmas become champions

Despite our poor points haul to date, I'm sticking with my healthy mid-table prediction because they nearly all have to face us twice before the end of the season.
