Man United build up - trawling their on-line fan shows 10:26 - Nov 19 with 8178 viewsunstableblue

What a game in prospect we have on Sunday.

Something about Man U visiting, they are a mega club. Such history.

I was lucky enough to be there in 2000 when they arrived and Town’s amazing second season in the Premier League went turbo, with a wunder team move for the Wilnis goal, and an atmosphere to remember, on which Ferguson waxed lyrical. Beckham, et al, on the Portman Road pitch was something to behold.

I’m expecting a huge home fan performance on Sunday, buoyed by the glory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Make it intimidating for their new manager.

I’ve been watching lots of the very slick Man U fan television on YouTube, huge viewing figures. Amorim is the new dawn, the chosen one. They are hanging on every word… one key work is the ‘identity’ he will finally bring.

They are conscious that he’ll only have had two days on the training pitch with the full team due to international break. But seem convinced he’ll go with the back 3 from the off.

They are also seeing the return of Mainoo from injury, which is not confirmed, as key to their success at Ipswich.

I think they are in for a wake up call at Town, our team is gelled now, injuries will have returned. Phillips, Greaves, Axel, back up Taylor. I think we get into them early, make the stands rabid, we have a real chance.

BUT, Amorim is a man manager, and they have better quality. ding dong incoming.

The pedant says we played them at PR in 2000 and 2002 but not 2001....

I was at both those games, sadly won't be there on Sunday but should be an electric atmosphere to match that August 2000 evening.

Manchester United at home, in the Premier League. The Super Sunday main event.

Still surreal.

Have been really looking forward to it since Tottenham but now feel a bit apprehensive due to the new manager and the media circus that will follow, would’ve much preferred ETH still being in charge, but we can get a result if we turn it on, would absolutely love it if we can get something and ruin the party.

Hoping for the best atmosphere at PR yet.

Yeah they have history alright,
the club that refused to share gate receipts,
the club that started the demise of the FA Cup by bugering off to china

We will stuff them

Apparently De Ligt has really struggled in a back three throughout his career, so hopefully they have a few early teething problems that we can exploit!

Our fans need to be at their best, fully behind the team for 90 mins.

United fans will be loud. Old Trafford is a library but their away fans are some of the best in the country. Should make for a great atmosphere.

Yes their travelling fans are some of the best; and they have a new messiah to back.

But I think we’ve got to be as you say our very loudest; they will make errors bedding in a brand new system, and we need a cacophony to amplify those, and amplify our threat… when we break… everyone on their feet, urging our blue warriors on.

Big games for Axel, Phillips and Hutchinson.

All of their mercenary players will turn up for this game as they’ve got what they wanted in the shape of a new manager.

I really hope we get a result against them to ruffle some more feathers, I can’t fecking stand Man United, being the age I am all I can remember of them is the glory hunting following they amassed in the late 90’s whilst I was the only one at primary school who actually supported a proper football team.

Anyone remember when we beat them 2-0 in the League Cup, 1997/98ish? I remember Mum waking me up to tell me we'd drawn them in the next round. Pretty sure they played their reserves but still a great night under the lights.

Lost to Chelsea on penalties in the Quarter-Finals that year I think?

Yeah probably still a bit better than your average away end, but nothing what they were 5/10 years ago

Same with most clubs unfortunately.

I hate united so hopefully we can quiet them down early. Probably my most hated team behind Norwich.

I think Clarke could be in with a shout to get him back involved having sat on the bench for a few games.

Szmodics feels like a bit of an away player (not just because all of his goals have come that way). Clarke will help us keep hold of the ball a bit more and I think he'll be more comfortable playing close to the touchline if needed, which I think SS struggled with against Leicester.

Also feel Burgess should keep his place.

It will be very harsh on Burgess, but Greaves has been brought in for big money to be our number one left sided centre back, and has more pace.

Same for Cajuste… but Phillips has been brought in as our main player this season, and he was excellent against Leicester up to the second yellow.

Indeed, while some of their players might feel the need to try to impress the new boss, the reality is that their results this season haven't been good & them having to play a completely new system gives us a great chance IMO. While they have better players than us, they're level on points with Bournemouth & Brentford for a reason so we should have no fear.

You beat me to it.

I was there fore the 3-2 and 2-1 home games in the 90s. I can't remember what way round it was but I know one was the same season as the 9-0 thrashing.

Mainoo training; DIFFICULT for McKenna to prepare for this one on 14:08 - Nov 19 with 5143 viewsunstableblue

Looks like Mainoo fully fit and involved.

Manager very hands on from this footage. Their players will be aiming to impress I’m sure. Will it be Johnny Evans at the front of the back 3?! Could be joy for Delap.

It’s a really hard game for McKenna to prepare for… we know how our leader likes to analyse teams in detail and convey a plan to beat to his players. But the recent ETH game footage becomes somewhat meaningless. Does he refer more to tapes of Sporting?!

I think we should - and probably will - play our usual shape. McKenna only usually makes changes to contact a specific threat in the opposition.

In that case, you won’t mind me pointing out that 1993-94 was actually our second season in the Premier League 😬
