Made sure to be at my desk when they went on sale again at 1800hrs, tried to complete the check-out process at 1801hrs and they'd already sold out.

It's a weird controversy which was totally unnecessary.
In the beginning, there was no particular clamour for a slightly radical cover design idea, and yet the Club had a bit of vision and went with it. Great. It was popular, and something a bit different. You have to give free hand to someone who is good at their job and has a spark of creativity. Just like a creative midfielder, or even a young manager.
But then to pull the plug is madness. There is no disguising it. There is no pretending that the decision is taken on democratic grounds, or artistic grounds, or even direct economic grounds in terms of programme sales. And yet we're kind of taken for fools in the explanation that's given, such as it is.
Totally unnecessary p***ing off of fans. If the club continues its upward trajectory, it is important that it doesn't lose touch with its fans. Its certainly going to need them if that trajectory does reverse at any point.
Anyway, it's just one issue, and Ashton has to deal with hundreds, so some perspective is necessary, but I do think it's a bit of a silly own goal. |  | | |

Ashton spoke of just a small group not happy about not having it but I dont think I've seen anyone who's unhappy with those covers so I'd be interested how he's got to the view that only a small group aren't happy. There's not exactly been a questionnaire put out. |  |

The way he mentioned how he had to balance all views and included manager, players, etc I thought it might well be an objection by them. Maybe players see being on the programme (especially in the PL) as being more important than it seems.
If so I can understand that, I guess. I can't imagine an objection by anyone else (including sponsors) would have caused them to be dropped so readily.
Personally, I'd have much preferred the callmeted covers as they are unique collectibles and a pullout version is not the same. I bought them for that reason, but not since the change. However looks like they are not being reinstated. |  | | |
