Players with a weak foot 15:12 - Dec 1 with 1303 viewsFrimleyBlue

Is it just me that finds it amazing that there are many players on 200k plus a week who can't kick with both feet.

Surely if you train enough on it you can get to a medium balance between left and right.

Palmer just now having no choice to cut back because he can't kick with his right. And you see it in alot of games. Haaland had one last week clean on goal but had to stop as didn't want to shoot with his right.

a niche perspective

I think they prefer not to use their weaker foot rather than an innate inability to use it. Last season Palmer scored at least 3 goals with his right foot.

Yeah I appreciate that. I just mean not having to ruin a chance because you want to use that stronger foot..

Appreciate most do end up with a few weak foot goals.. Salah is another for example.

I think in the days before the tippy tappy ball retention era, players were more likely to take a chance with a shot. Over the last 5+ years teams seem desperate to retain the ball and look for a “better” chance by working the ball around more.

I blame Pep.

The 2 players you mention there are both left footed and I think there could actually be something in that. I think left footers tend to be more one footed than right footers.

Took me being ran over and not really being able to kick with my left foot to become proficient with right foot, even then it’s not as accurate but I’m not a pro, remember Johnny Wilkinson saying he would practice for hours on both feet, surprised footballers don’t do the same.

Couldn't agree more FrimleyBlue.

When I was a young right winger my teacher temporarily put me on the left wing and told me to practice with the other foot. Result was me happily kicking with both feet.

Confuses the heck out of me why modern coaches cannot train players to do this.

So many players , even in the premier league, have to cut back, change position and waste chances. Also not sure why defenders don't try and keep them on their weak foot.
(Unless they are as good as Arnie Muhren with one foot!)

One footed players should stay behind and have special training !!

Yep agree, always thought this.

I know its a really stupid pov to have, but Burns trivela has always annoyed me as he has only done that to avoid using his left lol. Obviously not in a serious way, just in a 'why does that annoy me?' kinda way.

I th8nk there’s always been some brilliant players (some of the very best) have been one footed. Muhren and Thyssen come immediately to mind. A few years ago there was a player called Maradona. - quite good but hopelessly one footed so didn’t really make the grade. There used to be one play for Barcelona - Messi someone I think.

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?

Arnaldus Hyacinthus did score one memorable goal from way outside the area. It was a right-footed thunderbolt. I was there but blowed if I can remember the opposition.

This is just a question of levels, isn't it?

You could probably ban Cole Palmer from using his left foot and he'd still be better than 99.99% of people playing football. But he plays football with the 0.01%...
