Delap ban, spoke to the referee after press conference, there's a rule that if there's a fracas on the pitch someone on both teams has to be booked. Watched back the incident, don't see any fracas from our players, but Liam got booked within that. Disappointed about that, had been on good form, was playing well. With George out, makes it a different challenge for the weekend, opportunity for other people to step up. |

Options, pretty clear, probably got four or five people who have played as a striker, obvious ones, Wes Burns as well. Ali most natural four we have in the building in terms of profile we usually play, but short of match fitness. Omari played in central positions last week. What's important is we have different qualities in the squad, will need people to step up across the 90 minutes. The team which starts not any more important than the one that ends. You won’t find it on the laws of the game. If anything it will just be some more PGMOL BS for ideal match control even though it was after the final whistle. | | | |

I mean in light of recent ref behaviours, and dubious betting syndicates overseas, that's absolutely rife for some dodgy business.
Does the ref randomly pick someone to card, is it just those nearest the fracas, if he books two of their players does he have to book two of ours and so on

Did a bit of searching and while it's not in the IFAB laws of the game or the FA version it does get mentioned by some other refs e.g the first response to this question - http://asktheref.com/Search.asp?QuestionID=32503
Wouldn't surprise me if it's been included in guidance or training at some point as a typical response to a mass confrontation where you can't pick out individual players. Not saying that's the right approach but can see why such guidance might be given.
It would have been much easier for the ref just to say to KMc "Delap involved himself in the confrontation and I felt it warranted a yellow card" rather than come off with the response he did. | |
