Genuine question for the Faragets. on 11:02 - Jan 5 by lowhouseblue | but this is a massive scandal involving the rape of thousands of children. it was a systematic public sector failure across multiple cities. in terms of scale and public concern it ticks all the boxes for a national enquiry. the widespread perception is that we have a political elite which is scared of being open about this. this stuff left fester builds up resentment and empowers opportunists like farage. |
Yes. And it has been addressed appropriately. There is no widescale perception as you suggest. It is a perception generated, cynically, by Robinson and others. Don't get pulled down the rabbit hole!

Genuine question for the Faragets. on 10:15 - Jan 5 by StokieBlue | You ignored it in the last thread so lets try again: Given you don't live in the UK or the US, why are you so keen to see those that do live under governments run by awful individuals? SB |
In the case of Britain we don't have enough houses, hospital beds, schools etc etc to look after everyone who is here already let alone trying to look after thousand and thousands of people trying to enter the country illegally and many who are economic migrants who could've stayed in the first country they came to but decide to traipse across Europe to milk our system. If you did a poll tomorrow most of the country would agree but fear saying it because they would be accused of being racist. We're full and we're skint.

So your confident that Farages main interest is building more houses, schools and hospitals?

If we stop immigration tomorrow, we would collapse. The demographic timebomb is such that we need immigration to maintain and grow younger demographics and pay for the older sections which are getting ever bigger and more expensive. If you want immigration halted, you need to recognise that we would need a new outlook on public services and funding. Either giving up on caring for people, or everyone paying more tax and becoming more Scandinavian in the way we run things.

Putting fact after a blind statement does not make it a fact. In fact, its a clear indicator that you probably have no substantive argument in support!

You can't argue with facts Rick and he's said it's a fact now, so that's the end of that. We're all just gonna have to accept it as a fact. Fact [Post edited 5 Jan 13:05]

Unfortunately, that would mean the Tories, many of their supporters, and certain parts of the media taking responsibility for their mistakes. And there's more chance of me partnering O'Shea in defence this afternoon than that. Whatever goes wrong is the fault of the EU, of people coming here from elsewhere to try and improve their life, of the schools, of those who are LGBTQIA, of women generally, of anyone born after 1970, of anyone who isn't white, of anyone not in the higher tax bracket. To be fair to Sunak, he did seem a bit contrite after the election, but I suspect that was more a case of relief that he was out of it. But the two PM's prior to him - the lettuce brained void that is Truss, and the broken garden gnome made out of mashed potato that is Johnson are incapable of admitting they did wrong. Which shows them for what they are - inadequate cowards. [Post edited 5 Jan 13:31]

Policy rich thoughts... so another one with nothing. Disappointing as I'm a floating voter.

I'm not convinced we're full, although we've certainly underinvested in infrastructure and especially since 'austerity'. I see no evidence this is a genuine issue concerned with providing adequate services for the total population. If it was, we'd be hearing a lot more about the irregular immigrants living here already. The exact number isn't known because they're off-grid (people whose visas have lapsed and people who have had asylum claims rejected but have not left yet), but estimated put that figure somewhere between 600,00 and 1.2M. All we here about are the boats, which represent a tiny proportion of immigration (and most have asylum granted eventually, so are perfectly legal).
