Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 21:17 - Jan 14 by NeverSayDie | We still need a 9, a 10 and a CM 👍 |
I also thought we needed a number 10 but does the change in preferred formation/ tactics to 3 centre backs, means a number 10 is less critical ? I'm guessing funds, assuming Philogene signs, will be focussed solely on another striker.

Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 21:46 - Jan 14 by Kieran_Knows | My guess is we’ll go big on the lad from Brazil. |
I’m still shocked I’ve not seen anyone linked with Lorenzo Lucca at Udinese. 7 goals in 19 Serie A games this season, still only 24 and 6 foot 7.

Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 21:11 - Jan 14 by textbackup | Might just be me, but you’d think that £20m could have been used to bring in a striker… I’m sure matey will be well worth it though. |
I fully appreciate we need a 3rd striker but why would we spend excessive money on one when arguably we have a striker who will be converted but the best clubs in the land soon. I’d rather us spend the fees on right sided players where we look below par for this level. Bonus that JP can also play off the left but Godfrey was a great pick up.

Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 22:24 - Jan 14 by Nutkins_Return | There would be someone we can sign but I think there will have to be some sense in the price vs amount of upgrade. There is a big champ war going on for example for Tom Cannon that will be resolved very soon. We could come in and gazump everyone and pay ÂŁ10 mil for him. I think he is. Abetter player right now that Al Hamadi as full of confidence and technically decent. But he's probo going to struggle in the Prem. Europe will be totally pot luck if they are good enough/can adapt quickly. Plus the good ones will all be tracked. Nightmare window for a striker this year. I'd still take Troy Parrott at his point though. Btw fair play on the tone down respectful end to your post. Have an uppy! |
Tom Cannon just been recalled from Stoke - would Leicester sell to us?

Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 07:17 - Jan 15 by Wallingford_Boy | Delap and Hirst not enough for you?! |
Given Hirst's injury record, can we rely on him to see out the season?
| |
Yes, definitely…. on 11:16 - Jan 15 with 681 views | Bloots | ….I genuinely think our survival in the Prem depends on it. Without wanting to go all “texters” we only have two CFs that are fit for purpose, one of which is injury prone and one that I’m amazed hasn’t picked up an injury given his age, size and style of play. We don’t need to break the bank, but we need someone that’s around Hirst’s level. This isn’t a time to “make do” given what’s at stake. I just hope we aren’t wasting all our time and energy on strengthening other areas. Again.

Definitely better to be a cool kid than a constant bed wetter, who can't do anything about the situation anyway. Just a FYI. Now go and change your sheets. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Just to be clear, we still need a striker, right? on 21:31 - Jan 14 by HighgateBlue | Absolutely. Since the inception of the Premier League we have made two all time GREAT striker signings. Marcus Stewart and Liam Delap. The fact that we've been so short on numbers up front and still coped is testament to Delap's incredible work rate, physicality, stamina, and fitness. The guy really does have everything. Apart from a long throw, funnily enough... |
He must have a throw surely!? Just that he's too much use in the box. Though it would be a nice irony if he doesn't.

Absolutely, having someone in could be the difference of staying up. We can’t gamble on Hirst staying fit for the remainder of the season, which also puts too much weight on Delap, we’ve seen games over the last month where the bloke has looked absolutely shagged from probably being overplayed. McKenna clearly wants another striker, otherwise we wouldn’t have been willing to pay £25M+ for Broja on deadline day in the summer. Not denying it’s a hard window to sign a striker, especially when the rest of the Premier League are after one too, but when it could genuinely make such a big impact on our season, there is no excuse for me. Still some time left in the window, I’m sure there’s plenty of moving parts happening behind the scenes.

The manager's tactics rely heavily on the contribution from the number 9 position over the full game which means when you take the first choice off with 15 to go as per the plan, (first choice has given everything) the substitute needs to be almost as effective in the role. Hirst when fully fit is adequate, but we need another for when either of the two is injured/suspended.
