First the caveat. I only see the TV games, so am not getting the whole picture, however, why does Davis always check back when in a good crossing position now? Last season he would have whipped the ball in for the forwards to attack.

Because there isn’t anyone attacking barring Delap . Pointless crossing or pulling it back to 1 person

Last year we prob had 3/4 options

Absolutely correct. Trouble is getting numbers into the box quick enough is a problem.

You could level that at most of the team. We have a horrible knack of killing a good position dead by checking and going backwards constantly. We’ve barely attacked cohesively in the last 2 games other than a couple of breakaways. Sometimes think it would be nice to go down fighting than with a whimper.

You're right. It frustrates me. 2 poor crosses, check back every time other than that. Others are right, very little to aim at. Makes the policy of him bombing on almost pointless at times.

And that is the massive problem. On one of our very rare forays forward near end of second half, Davis in a bit of space on left…. Nobody at all in the box.

Surely if we mere mortals can see this is a recurring problem, then McKenna et Al should be trying to address this?

Disagree. Last season he plays a square pass alongside the 18 yard line to Broadhead or further to Chaplin, but that pass is never on nowadays.

But you have a point, he could whip more crosses in.

dunno why he’s taking corners as they rarely eat the first defender.

And he's getting less space infront of him. PL players are much better positioned to cut out his threat.

Fair point. It’s just unreal how big the gap is to the championship now.

Not sure about this. Like with Arsenal away, we had a lot of promising attacks that ran into a cul de sac. It might not be the percentage play to whip one in when it’s one against three or whatever, but our success rate from checking back and trying to do something more measured is awful against good defensive sides. Sometimes you do have to put one straight in and hope for either a defensive miscue or a bit of striking genius/luck I think.

Not having Szmodics, Broady or Chappers coming into that space does make it slightly more tricky.

Problem today was trying to get over that half way line. what I found really impressive was the way Man City to a man, ran straight us at lightening speed once we'd lost possession, which the sight if at least 5 City players storming down the pitch into our box. If you were one of our defenders you could be forgiven for turning a running for the hills. It was an impressive sight stood behind the SBR goal to watch how they attacked
" Bliztskrege" style. I mean. Just who do you choose to pick up and try and mark?

The forward line isn't up with him, whereas it was last season. But nothing wrong if he comes back inside if the player he passes to can whip it. As per our first goal against Fulham the ball comes to Broadhead who curls in a wonderful cross. Not too close to the GK, resulting in the defender running towards his own goal, Johnson behind him, horrible for the defender as his more likely to score.
