Recalled - but he came on against City in August...so surely we can't sell him to any other side other than Boro?

Doesn't make much sense to me unless we are either

a) Providing coverage in case Woolfy goes
b) Forcing Boro's hand to up their bid

Any chance someone else is off and Fridge is back as cover?

I think both.

Good negation tactic from Ashton. If boro want him, then they are gonna have to pay what we want. Also, allows us to have him in the building for now, giving us flexibility to cash in for Wolfy if a good bid comes in.

It could only be Woolfenden. Burgess is required cover as a left footer and everyone else is a new signing.

Or Tuanzebe, I guess, but his injury record and McKenna favouring him (understandably) makes that less likely.

It’s interesting if it’s a move to force Boro’s hand. Fridge will know how cut throat the professional game is and we must look out for our financial interests, however, I cannot help but feel for him. He was playing well and regularly and if it doesn’t work, will be sitting in the stands for half a season. That cannot be good for his mental well being. Just makes it feel a tad uncomfortable, when players are treated as assets rather than humans.

I’m aware this is full of assumptions, and none of it may be true.

Reading this from Phil's article:

"A subsequent bid of £500,000 plus £350,000 if Boro go up and further add-ons has also been rejected and the clubs have been unable to come to an agreement before the recall date in Edmundson’s loan deal."

I think there was something in the deal to say Boro had to sign him permanently by today, otherwise the recall would be triggered automatically. The problem is, by being kind and letting him run out against Manchester City in August, he can only turn out for Town or Boro for the rest of the season.

I think we're over-staffed with right-sided centre-halves anyway, aren't we? I reckon Woolfy might go as well now Godfrey has come in and Axel is back. If there's no agreement with Boro then GE would presumably be out of the squad but while having his wages paid for the rest of the season, which you'd imagine the club would want to avoid.

I guess if we're going to continue with a back three, it wouldn't be unreasonable to keep the squad as it is.

Godfrey - Tuanzebe
O'Shea - Woolfenden
Greaves - Burgess

If he wants to return to a back four it does seem too many. But even in a three, that's keeping it neat. If we start with Godfrey, O'Shea and Greaves, and one of the former two goes down, Tuanzebe will come in first.

Fridge has played quite a lot on the left from recollection even though he's right footed
