Mentality for Saturday 12:12 - Jan 23 with 1219 viewsvictorysquad

I really hope we give Liverpool a game this weekend. Of course we will need to be rock solid at the back (I hope Muric plays, he is just so commanding on crosses), but surely now we can attack with some real confidence we can cause opposition problems.

Poll: If we sing for 90 mins for all remaining games, how many points is it worth?

I'd like us to do whatever we need to do to ensure the ball remains in play for the least time possible. I'd also like our players to lie in the ball whenever we get the chance and I expect all 11 outfield players and a few subs to be booked for time wasting.

I think that we will be tighter at the back than for the City game, the players will have learned a lot and will have worked hard on defensive shape this week.

It seems to me that our undoing at this level is often an inability to deal with turning the ball over high up the pitch and then getting caught on the counter. We sometimes just lack a bit of precision in our build up play but hopefully some of the new faces in the squad will start to add extra quality in terms of ball retention.

Guaranteed that, unlike some of us fans, the players will not be looking beyond Liverpool and will be 100% dialled in. I predict a tight game 1-0, 1-1 or 0-1.

We need a repeat of Arsenal away (off the ball). Other than Greaves not clearing the cross for the goal it was solid.

They are going to press us high up the pitch again, the trouble with that is with their quality it is hard to transition up the pitch so i hope we don’t play out from the back. I think that playing style has to be reserved for mid to lower teams.

We will. Don't see it being a thrashing like Man City. Travel in hope more than expectation, but you just never know.

I love your optimism of keeping Liverpool to 1 or 0 goals scored. Unfortunately and realistically we’ll do well not to fall to a heavy defeat. The gulf in class is again enormous.

Probably the worst way we could approach it.

Indeed. 9-0-1 formation all the way. And the one up front will be very defensively focused.

We need to start by being solid at the back, that’s the absolute priority. However, when the opportunity comes to attack we need to get back to committing to the attack which we haven’t been doing recently. When the time comes to counter we need Philogene, Hutchinson, Leif, Cajuste and whoever’s at RWB to be up supporting Delap in the attack. Delap and Hutchinson have been far too isolated recently and the ball has been coming back way too quickly

I'll be there and I'm terrified.
