no i don't think it is. but please free feel to quote this act from the 60s or the subsequent amendment to it.

I think the 2010 equality act was the great leveller for all of this to be fair.

and a good thing too. but it didn't bring 'hate crime' into uk law. hostility against a protected characteristic can be an aggravating factor in sentencing for a separate crime (but that crime must be proved first), we have the quite narrowly drawn law on incitement to hatred on the grounds of race, religion or sexual orientation, and we have racially and religiously aggravated wounding or abh under the 1998 act, but uk law doesn't have any stand alone concept of 'hate crime'. we have non-crime hate incidents, but they're not crimes and are essentially discretionary record keeping by the police. i said in my first post that i am being pedantic, and i am, but if you don't intend to incite hate against the 3 groups above, you don't commit another general crime, and you don't assault anyone because of race or religion, then legally you can be just as hateful as you like.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Oh it was the crime - presumably we're talking section 4A of the 1986 Act, which is then elevated to hate crime due to the disability component of his behaviour.

yes harassment would seem a possible offence - hard to tell from the article alone - and then the hostility on the basis of a protected characteristic would be an aggravating factor in sentencing. but i don't think (very happy to be corrected) the phrase 'hate crime' appears in any english legislation?

Ah well that returns to my initial thoughts on what you were possibly saying. The phrase is well-understood in political and legal discourse, is agreed police and CPS terminology, used by charitable organisations, media and so forth, but the term doesn't explicitly appear anywhere in UK legislation to my understanding, correct, including in respect to laws surrounding racial and religious hatred.

That is pedantry of the highest order, you're spot on and did warn me. 😅

I remember it being sung to opposition players.

Hope the guy is caught.

I still hear who's the c*** in the black occasionally aimed at the Ref.

Used to hear "your father is your mother your uncle is your brother you all f one another, the Naridge family"

Used to also hear "you're going home in an f in ambulance"

Used to hear a song aimed at Northerners "innn your northern slums"

"she fell over" aimed at soft players going over, never hear that anymore.

i guess my point also is that legally it is actually a much narrower and more precise concept than is implied in most political and media discourse. for example, much public discussion seems to assume the issue is the existence or expression of hatred, rather than as it is legally just crimes motivated by hatred against groups with protected characteristics or inciting others to hate. the very broad version of the concept in common discourse can be quite misleading.

it might be reported and recorded as a non-crime hate incident. that doesn't imply any crime. so, what crime do you think you might have committed, and, even if there was a crime, why do you assume that your criminality was motivated by your neighbours race?
