So bored of away point moaning 20:45 - Jan 27 with 13653 viewsITFC_Blood

End of the day if you backed the boys away in L1 and champ you would have no issues getting a ticket in the Prem

If you can’t it means you didn’t do enough away days in the lower leagues

All this boo and crying is pathetic , if it wasn’t Liverpool or city away you wouldn’t care.

The fans that get the tickets for away now are the ones who did the hard miles in the lower leagues.

Blackburn away wasn’t sold out…..

Poll: Do you want Jewell sacked?

Apologies, I misread it - I thought he said you had to be an away season ticket holder.

So yes, it would still be a closed shop... but at least it would be a larger closed shop if you included season ticket holders. You're not suggesting non-season ticket holders should have the same or greater priority than season ticket holders surely?

At some point there needs to be some sort of cut off, and many people with season tickets have had them for donkey's years, so they are certainly loyal fans. If someone doesn't go to either home or away games then they surely have to accept they're at the bottom of the pile in terms of any priority?

I certainly don't doubt your loyalty or commitment but it also applies to non season-ticket holders as well. I don't believe either deserves greater priority than the other when it comes to away tickets.

You pay your money for a season ticket to guarantee a seat at every home game. And as anyone who has experienced the Monday morning scramble for home tickets will vouch, that is like gold dust right now.

But being a season ticket holder has absolutely nothing to do with away tickets. I understand why you may feel it should but why should someone like me miss out when my attendance at away games going back decades is greater than some season ticket holders who like to do a handful of trips each season? Being honest, if you were in that position, do you think that would be fair when our outlays both financially and time-wise are very similar?

Someone posted a few weeks back that season ticket holders should give up a home game each season so occasional fans can get a home ticket. That would be ludicrous and equally unfair but surely you can see the similarities in the argument here.

I live in Sussex, I have watched Ipswich since the early 80s. I have always done an equal amount of home and away games because a season ticket wasn't logistically and therefore financially viable. I would love one right now but I had the opportunity a few seasons back, didn't take it and now I can't really moan about it.

Similarly, people had the chance to go to more away games last season, didn't take it and are now some are moaning about the system. Forgive me if I get a little frustrated by the hypocrisy here.

Remember, as I have already stated, I have seen both sides of this argument. I am crushed I can't take my eldest son to every away game because he is marooned on 19 points but I accept the rules because I think it is probably the fairest solution to reward those who went week in, week out last season and have continued to go this season.

But your solution would mean any non-season ticket holder would have no chance of getting an away ticket, creating the kind of closed shop you, yourself, think is unfair.

You speak very much as if you are a season-ticket holder living in the Ipswich area. Apologies, if that assumption is wrong. But, as someone has already said, people living miles away can't do volunteer work for the Foundation in return for points.

But those same people are probably lifelong Ipswich fans. Of the 10,000 fans we seem to have rediscovered over the past two seasons, I suspect the majority of those come from a local radius. Potentially, a lot of those will crawl back into the woodwork if our fortunes take a downturn.

But you don't suddenly become an Ipswich fan overnight if you're living in Brighton, Cheltenham or Swansea as some people on this board do. They are exiled, long-term fans who have followed Ipswich through the same dark times you have and are now being rightly rewarded with some good times.

When you are talking about loyalty, these people are just as loyal to their club as you. They certainly don't deserve to be cast aside because the current system doesn't favour you when you have already had the chance to build up an away points tally and didn't take it.

I know we won't agree on this and that's fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. I have tried to see your point of view out of respect and I hope you will do the same with mine.

I don't always agree with every decision the ticket office has made and I don't agree with fans passing on away tickets. But I believe the club has applied a degree of logic to their decision and, for that reason, I would say the current system is probably as fair as it can be right now.

Excellent and thorough response, so I thank you for that.

A couple of points;

1. I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone an away ticket if they've been in attendance at away games going back decades.

2. I don't think giving up one season ticket seat per season is in any way comparable to making away tickets more accessible. Many people have sat in those seats (myself included) for decades. Every away game is a different opposition/stadium/part of the country. The only way it'd be comparable is if there were still away season tickets, and someone had one of those for decades.

3. People didn't necessarily have the chance to go to more away games last season, it depends on their circumstances. Many have been going away for decades, like yourself, but didn't so much in the last two seasons. I'm not sure why those last two seasons meant loyalty, but nothing before it did, in terms of points.

4. I don't live in the Ipswich area, I live in Crystal Palace. So the volunteering for the Foundation idea wouldn't help me. But then I'm not thinking about just what's best for me.

5. I'm not saying anyone should be "cast aside". I'm just saying the shop shouldn't be closed to those not already in it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Fair enough and thank you for your comments.

We may not agree on everything but I do see your point of view.

And I like to think this shows you can have a reasoned debate on a touchy subject without resorting to insults which unfortunately does happen from time to time on this board.

I always remind myself on issues like this that we are all Ipswich fans and we all just want to see our team play. It's no use saying it's not personal because that is exactly what it is.

If we ever meet at Portman Road or on our travels, I'll buy you a beer.

Also - the membership moaning is tiresome. Like many in the so-called 'closed shop' I bought a gold card for 25 years, which after we got relegated was rarely - if ever - needed (esp as you couldn't even select where you wanted to sit for most of that time). And the biggest irony is the games it really might have been needed (Norwich, Wimbledon at Kingston), ended up being allocated by invitation letter anyway. So having paid up best part of £750 to the club I am finally being paid back this season...

And my Man U ticket is available as I can't make and altho it may affect my chances of getting to Bournemouth I will not spoil someone's else's chance to go to this one...

DM me if your ManUtd ticket is still available please
