Have we given up on a striker? 19:01 - Jan 30 with 5561 viewsgsoly

Lots of talk on here and around the fanbase about a striker still being top of our list, but it feels to me like McKenna/Ashton have admitted defeat.

Using our final PL loan spot on Enciso then McKenna referencing his ability to play as a false nine suggests that game is up. We've also let Ali leave a week ago, and still nobody is in or seemingly close to being so.

It's a risk: we remain an injury away from a very sticky situation. But perhaps the player we need just doesn't exist, with the limitations we now face?

The pot must be running dry, for one. And even if we could drop £20m on a Latte-Lath, why would he come knowing he's fighting with Hirst to be the back-up? Same goes for any striker in that £15-20m ballpark. They'll want to be number one.

All that leaves is a foreign loan, but why would a club loan a player knowing they'll get limited game time? Unless they want their wages off the books... And then it's a big wage investment for us, into a back-up player. Not exactly ideal.

Been running it round and I just don't think it's a deal we can do now, unless Hirst/Delap pick up a serious injury on Saturday. Christ almighty I hope that doesn't happen.

If we don't sign anyone it's incompetent management as what happened in the summer spent weeks chasing a player who is never fit in Broja we will see.

You genuinely don’t deserve to be allowed to support our great club

We have some of the thickest fans nationally

How can you say it feels like they have admitted defeat because our every move isn't leaked anymore...

They're probably working frantically in the background ahead of Mondays deadline to get someone in

I'd say it's a valid criticism - not necessarily for January, as it's such a difficult window to get something done, but a third striker should have been signed in August. The procrastination with Broja cost us badly.

Chasing an injured and injury prone striker in Broja was a mistake,

This time last January we had 0 fit strikers in the building, this season we already have 2. That’s 2 fit strikers, on permanent contracts, in the building. So maybe we can calm this collective panic a touch?

Most people here seem adamant that 3 players for one striker position is the minimum required and we are in jeopardy having any less than this, yet we have 9 attacking forwards for the 3 positions behind the striker, which is roughly 3 for each, yet 2 of them are short term injured and another 2 are now out for the season, making only 5 fit players. Yet the consensus seems to be that signing more forwards to try to have 3 players for each of these positions is frivolous beyond belief..

My point here being; cchhhiiiillllllllllll

I think it's 50/50 at best that KM will be here next season, so do we keep spending large amounts (for us) on his preferred types of players?

Yes, of course we should. It would be foolish to do nothing just because of future possibilities. We'd stagnate very quickly, because during every transfer windows people would be saying 'what if this happens in 6 months'.

You have to plan for today, with what you know today.

Chasing an injured and injury prone striker in Broja was a mistake,

When it was announced we'd agreed a deal as far as the club knew he was a player who had just come back from an long term ACL injury and had played quite a few minutes during preseason. At the time Phil commented on one of the threads that the club hoped to get him registered in time to be available for that weekend.

The achilles injury was only identified during the medical and Chelsea seemed genuinely surprised by it.

Poll: How many points do you think you'll need to get a ticket for Norwich?
