Meanwhile, back in the Strip 22:32 - Feb 17 with 1266 views | DJR | https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/feb/17/netanyahu-committed-to-trumps-plan Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated that he is “committed” to Donald Trump’s plan to take over and develop the Gaza Strip, amid uncertainty over whether Israel will send a delegation to Qatar to discuss the second stage of the fragile ceasefire in the war with Hamas. In a statement on Monday, the Israeli prime minister said: “Just as I have committed to, on the day after the war in Gaza, there will be neither Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority. I am committed to US president Trump’s plan for the creation of a different Gaza.” The remarks come after a report by Sky News Arabia on Sunday night that Hamas was prepared to hand over control of Gaza to its West Bank-based rival, the semi-autonomous Palestinian Authority (PA), following pressure from mediator Egypt. Do you also include the current crop of sleeze balls governing our country ? They are just as bad in the sense of giving away territory , taking away benefits from pensioners, granting extra benefits to illegal immigrants allowing criminals to use spurious claims against deportation !

Giving away territory? Are you referring to the Chagos Islands? Not heard of any extra benefits to illegal immigrants since labour came into power? Happy to be proved wrong though, if you can enlighten me

Does your dislike of means-tested benefits extend to the unemployed, too?

Perfect comparison. Well done. Yahoo and everything he's doing in Gaza is exactly like Starmer means testing winter fuel payments. Thank god you popped up, I'd never spotted it before

Maybe I've missed something but I don't think the Starmer government is contemplating the deportation or forced transfer of the civilian population of an occupied territory in breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention and customary international law. Interestingly, the Supreme Court of Israel has stated on several occasions that Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention was not meant to apply to the deportation of selected individuals for reasons of public order and security. But it would be stretching credulity for that court to extend such a ruling to the entire population of Gaza, the vast majority of whom are innocent civilians. [Post edited 18 Feb 9:32]
