We will know if they do it in private as Trump will cancel any joint press conference, as they did in Kyiv after Kelloggs met Zylinsky. Someone has to speak up the sooner it happens the more likelihood Trump will be removed. Another potential flashpoint will be when , with far fewer military commitments, Trump/Musk announce a 100,000 reduction in the around 1.3m full time military strength.

He's going to have a problem with that. Military is big business with serious lobbyists behind it, and production is mainly in Republican leaning states. He is going to make some senators unhappy.

Only because it might cost them in the mid-term elections. Senators are a strange breed, more than a third of them are over 70 years old, and the oldest is in his 90’s. A lifelong ticket for the gravy train.

I think they should walk in, not say a word, just show Trump the brilliant Jonathan Pie ‘Art of the Deal’ YouTube rant, crack one off in his office and leave him to enjoy the leaden cloud. That’d confuse him.

This is Russian style crony capitalism where only the lapdogs benefit (Musk). The geopolitical fallout of his (Trump) foreign policy, and his trade wars won’t benefit the wealthy outside his circle. Musk gets to kill of his Chinese EV competition in the worlds largest and wealthiest market, not to mention he has huge vested interests. Tesla and SpaceX are largely reliant on either government grants, carbon credits, and government (NASA) contracts. Murdoch is a billionaire and a very influential one, but he’s not an oligarch.

New York Post front page This is a Dictator on 10:22 - Feb 22 by Guthrum | Why challenge Trump about what he said yesterday? It's largely irrelevant to what he thinks today. He's already reversed his comments from Tuesday about Ukraine starting the war. It's more about carefully steering the President towards the course you want him to take. Cold-hearted pragmatism, but there is no room for fannying about or standing on principles in bomb-disposal. People are going to get hurt if it goes off. |
Whether he thinks the same today is irrelevant on whether he should be challenged. Words are powerful and falsehoods and lies should always be challenged lest the falsehoods fester and gain traction. Not everyone consumes the news on a daily basis and to let rubbish like he says pass without challenge would mean that sometimes the fact he's changed his mind or it's nonsense is missed. I really don't understand where this reluctance to challenge him stems from and I certainly don't think you can steer him in a direction you want him to take from outside his inner circle. These are all the old rules. The rules have changed. SB

It is impossible to steer Trump in a different direction, it is almost impossible to even guess which direction he will move in next. This from Washington Post New Social Security chief was being investigated when Musk team tapped him Leland Dudek, a data analyst working in a small anti-fraud office, was suspected of sharing unauthorized access to information with representatives of Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service. Now he’s the acting Social Security commissioner. He wasn’t even in a management position now he is acting head.

New York Post front page This is a Dictator on 23:54 - Feb 21 by StokieBlue | I think he deserves quite a bit of stick for saying he's not going to challenge Trump with regards to his comments about Zelenskyy. The Germans have challenged him, why shouldn't we, as the second largest economy in Europe also challenge him? Not challenging these people is what leads to the problems. SB |
Germany challenge him with words, but they are very weak on actions or saying what actions they will take. I prefer Starmer saying what actions he will take and saying what he is for. Saying VZ is legitimate in the context of WW2 is enough. We don't need to be play their game by being dragged into different discourses fronts. Entertaining the discussion legitimatizes it more as that becomes what your argue about, talk about, but it is nonsense. Irrelevant. We need to keep it simple - do more for Ukraine, put our industrial defense into action, and lead Europe once again against dictator on the continent and move away from Russia's puppet promptly.

On a wider point, the problem with things like Jonathan Pie is that it's preaching to the converted and is just not the sort of thing that Trump supporters are going to watch, or if they do be influenced by.

The Mirror is also running this story (without any corroboration) and it seems to me a load of bollox. In my view, you don't fight Trump and all his misinformation with FAKE NEWS. Indeed, articles like that in the Mirror just play into Trump's narrative about the MSM. [Post edited 23 Feb 8:53]

It seems to be a rehash of a story from 2021 which the Guardian ran. I assume the Kazak spy has repeated his claims and hence it's being re-run. SB
