Poll: If ITFC were to be relegated, would McKenna be poached to manage in the Prem?

Very briefly and arguably of course, we were best club side in Europe. They were the PSG of their day

Monsieur Platini said we were the best team in Europe that season.

Radio Orwell 'coverage' 15 years old, in the bedroom with a couple of mates. 'Goal Action'. one down. 'Goal Action', 1-1, 2,3,4!! The Saturday we were on the coach to Forest, our first big away day without parents! Magnifique!

Without doubt and the performance never really got the credit it deserved from the media.

Wow, lucky you!! I’d really love to have seen that. Yes, the best ever away performance of my time (didn’t see Ramsey’s champions).

The best home performance I ever witnessed was the Man U 6-0 game. United finished second that season and they were genuinely lucky to keep it under double figures.

Was at that 1 as well. Wasn't Wark injured and we missed a couple of penalties as well?

Why was that? Was that team not taken seriously by sports journalists because the town itself wasn’t (and still isn’t) a big city or based in London? Or did Forest, Villa and Liverpool simply dominate the headlines?

Liverpool were in the European Cup that season and went on to beat Real Madrid in the final so a lot of the media attention was focussed on them. Also, I think it was a case of the media not acknowledging how good a side St Etienne were at that time and what an achievement it was for us to beat them by that scoreline on their own ground.

I was there that day / night what a team performance, the best I’ve ever seen since my first game in 68 , make no mistake St Etienne were a top top team in Europe and unbeaten at home .
John Motson described as the best result and performance from an English side away from home in European competition he had ever seen …….nuff said .

He was and we did. But we actually had a lot more chances than the two missed pens

From memory, I believe, that Wark was back home in Glasgow on compassionate leave to attend his fathers funeral. We actually missed three penalties, as one had to be retaken, which I believe Beattie was responsible for.

Indeed it was Beattie that twice missed the retaken one. Tbf, Gary Bailey saved them well. He was MUs man of the match that day.

To put it into perspective St Etienne were 14 points clear at the top of the French League at the time and we won the home leg 3-1.

Phenomenal result and likely never bettered.
