Strangely chilled about Saturday, have come to terms with relegation and actually looking forward to next season. The Tuesday nights, winnable games, less of the circus - and a chance to build again.

That being said, would still like to see us out up a fight and drag it out as long as possible, so would go with the team below;

I'd assumed Hutchinson might not be back at full fitness for a start, although him and Delap coming on should cause them problems.

I think Delap has been trying a bit too hard - and more importantly think Hirst deserves a start.

Rather than waiting so late to bring Hirst on, can bring Delap on at 55-60 to really run at them.

Hirst's minutes per goal is better than Delap's this season. In fact it's more than twice as good. 129 MPG vs 395 for Delap

Plus Hirst has the same quantity of assists as Delap having played a fraction of the minutes. The main difference between them this season appears to have been Alan Shearer saying Delap is Kane's successor.

Think we've finally got a pretty settled lineup for the foreseeable. Back four picks itself until Axel's fit; Phillips and Cajuste have got the midfield shirts barring injury; Philogene, Enciso and Omari are the obvious trio to start behind the striker; and while I think we all agree Hirst probably deserves a start or two, barring something crazy, Delap will play.

interesting, but quite a low sample size for prem games (1 goal). couldn't get the premier league filter to work on your link.

assuming we do fall out of contention for survival, hirst should get more starts then (and i expect yellow cards will enforce this for a couple of games before that). but i wouldn't drop delap for this one

Good point. Always a tricky one though isn't it. If you essentially 'ban' him yourself to prevent a ban, you could argue it's counterproductive.

Agreed. Where Hirst plays a pass and keeps possession in attacking areas, Delap will attempt a low percentage dribble or shot. One has been playing with an eye on his YouTube & MotD reel (which won't show all the failures) more than the other this season. We need players who prioritise ITFC wins.

Agree, but with Delap another yellow means a 2 game ban.

Then we cross that bridge when / if we come to it. Delap brings so much more than goals in that role. I'm a big fan of Hirst but we're in 'must win' territory, and to not start Delap on Saturday doesn't make sense to me, yellow cards or otherwise.

Whoever plays up front , they need more support from other players .

Delap is having to do it on his own a lot of the time , one of Hirst's strengths is bringing others into play , but they need to offer more to whoever plays up front .

Pretty rubbish to suggest that Delap prioritises reels over Town wins. Also Hirst hasn't really demonstrated this when he's been playing in the PL.

It's mainly because whomever plays upfront has little support from the midfield in most games.

I'm not against Hirst, just the anti-Delap narrative on here is bizarre.

Whoever plays up front , they need more support from other players . Delap is having to do it on his own a lot of the time , one of Hirst's strengths is bringing others into play , but they need to offer more to whoever plays up front .

Hirst doesn't just bring others into games by holding the ball up and playing passes. He makes excellent runs into spaces behind the defensive lines which stretch defenders and makes space for our other forwards.

With delap. He stays central then drops deep to get the ball to drive forward. Problem with that is we are then suffocated in the final third as the defensive line are easily organised.

I'm not apposed to the delap behind and Hirst Infront option and then have Julio as the finisher.

I'd like Broadhead and Hirst to start for as long as it takes people to be satisfied that they weren't the missing keys to unlocking our season. Both are heroes in my eyes so would be no hardship.
