I can only realistically see us winning two more games!! 22:56 - Mar 15 with 1899 viewsDenny32

Leicester cos they will be down like ourselves and wolves cos they know they are safe and on the beach..of the others little old Brentford seems daunting as they beat Bournemouth today..its pathetic really..I was expecting a battle near the end but we are just a shadow of everything we were in the previous two leagues ..courtesy of players brought in who just didn't do anything great..just really make up the numbers..

This. Maybe we'll get a similar result to the win against Leeds on the final day of 18/19? But other than that...

Sadly I would not be surprised if one or two unwanted club records were set this season (fewest points, most consecutive defeats).

If you can’t beat a Southampton team at home, in a relegation battle, when they are on to be the worse ever PL team, that says everything about the current team/squad/selection/coaching/management.

I of course know that won’t be popular to say. But we were down at the final whistle of that game. Incredibly some still felt there was hope (fair play to those fans for feeling that way BTW)

Southampton is an example of why people will never agree on what is a must-win game.

Of course it wasn't mathematically must-win, but most of us accepted relegation after we failed to win that match. I think the players did too.

A dreadful result and obviously have to win that game in a a season where we’re not going to get close to double figures in wins.

Seems odd how we’ve just completely come off it. Wonder what would have happened if we’d held on at Fulham as feels like we’ve not got any momentum all season. All very well saying we’ve been competitive etc but that’s obviously completely missing the point - we look very easy to pick off most weeks, and the defending all over the pitch is more often than not poor.

Overall this league is a very difficult watch when you’re on the receiving end isn’t it.

I said after Southampton we wouldn't win another game this season. Nothing that's happened so far has changed my mind. Maybe West Ham at the end of season as they won't give a monkeys....

When we were searching for our first win of the season, there was at least, a sense, it was coming.

We don't look like picking anything up now.

Yeah I’m with you mate.

We have competed in games, but then I look at it and think ‘have we really?!’ We pass it about a fair bit in midfield, and at the back. But have so little threat in attack.

I did expect us to stay up, but ill be honest, if I needed to rate the season out of ten, in terms of performance… I’m probably say 4/10.

Think our confidence and (in spite of what the players say publicly) belief has just been completely shot to pieces unfortunately. Must be incredibly draining to put in so much work and effort and get naff all for it almost every week.

You could see in our attacking play yesterday when we did get into decent positions we were too hesitant and ended up working the ball back to a CB on half way. I get we were probably cautious about giving it away and having them break on us as quickly as they can but equally they’re so solid defensively that just passing it around in front of them was unlikely to bear much fruit.

In truth if Wolves hadn’t been so awful under O’Neil at the start of the season then we’d probably be on the brink of mathematical confirmation at this point. We’re simply not good enough for the level yet - no real shame in that but doesn’t make how the season’s gone any less disappointing.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Everton and Wolves hiring competent managerial replacements is annoying as well. If only one of them had mucked that up...

Wolves will put 11 behind the ball and hope to hit us on the break, they will be more than happy with a boring 0-0.

Only game at the moment I see is West Ham home. Last game & Hammers players on the beach not going to make Europe or relegation and basically not giving a fork

Danny Murphy was spot on last night on MOTD.

He expected more from us having spent the money that we have.

Though over the past ten seasons we've probably spent £140m in total at most on the squad. Now compare that to how much the other 19 have spent over that time period to develop and build.

That's not saying performances shouldn't be questioned. But every other club had a clear advantage that so called experts want to ignore. What they really should be doing is questioning why, for a second season in a row, the promoted three appear to be going down with a whimper.

We walked onto the pitch looking beaten by Southampton before a ball was even kicked. Even at 2-1 down in added time we just aimlessly passed the ball about the back with no effort to try and salvage a point. It’s a mentality issue as much as a tactical approach.

Performance wise we played better against them at home this season than we did in 23/24. The Sarmiento winner clouds that.

Southampton had to do literally nothing to win that game, they sat back and watched us pass ourselves to sleep while Delap ran himself into the ground. At least in the Championship game while Southampton had the better of the possession we were fighting for everything. Our lot couldn’t wait for it to be over this season.

Our mentality has been weak.

Afraid not - after the August transfer window closed, I sat down one boring evening and trawled through the Transfermarkt site. Up to the end of 2023/24, we'd spent about £90m in our ENTIRE history.

Which isn't that unsurprising really - it took us until 1994 to get the first million pound one through the door. Think I'm right in saying the £200k we paid for Kevin O'Callaghan remained the record fee paid until we bought Geraint Williams as late as 1992.

Does seem that every time we have a bit of a splurge it goes a bit wrong - 2001 with Finidi,.Sereni, Le Pen, 2008 post Evans takeover with Norris, Sumulikoski, Quinn and there's probably other instances.
