He was subbed on for Jay Emmanuel-Thomas in the Bristol City match.

Baggott is a funny one, on paper he looks like a natural successor to Burgess or Greaves but really needs to start doing it soon I think he has had injuries and a change of manager which has disrupted his season?

Yes, in the very limited number of times I've seen him play, he looked like he'd got all the attributes at a young age - size, strength, timing, calmness (not sure about pace) and confidence on the ball. With those attributes you'd expect him to come good if his head's in the right place. Maybe he just needs a change of scene for it all to click?

I would really hope that both Humphreys and Baggott would get a chance here again in the Championship, with Edmundson moved on already. Next season both Cajuste/Phillips are gone, and combined with Morsy and Mass's slowdown, you'd hope Humphreys could be one to break in for us next season.

Humphreys and Downes could be a decent central midfield pairing.

Is it injuries again or something? I saw Bruce singing his praises a few weeks ago.

I was going to say, if you're a young central defender with aspirations, who better to have as your manager than Steve Bruce? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

He might be a useful squad option but I can't see him being a regular starter if we are shooting for promotion I have no idea how El Mis is getting on but wondered whether holding him to loan him out may have paid dividends in the end We need two decent central midfielders coming in, Morsy and Luongo may add some squad depth but aren't the long term answer

Being a romantic Ipswich fan, I would love to see Humphreys break-in, it's been great seeing Wolfenden look like a good defender in the Premier League, and having Harry Clarke play for us again, but having a few more home-grown players feels right even though I accept in 2025 this is dinosaur football and almost no top clubs have English players playing for them now, let alone youth team players!

This site suggests Liverpool have 7 English players in their squad and from their academy , plus Kelleher who is Irish but been with them a long time. Man U have 5, Palace, Spurs and Brighton 4 each. Of course these squads may be bigger than Town's because some of these players are young, and I haven't checked to see if they've all actually got first-team minutes this season. (These figures include quite a few players who haven't yet 'made up their mind' if they're English or something else as far as international football is concerned.) https://www.transfermarkt.com/premier-league/eigengewaechse/wettbewerb/GB1/plus/ [Post edited 18 Mar 12:15]

Looking at the Blackpool form they don't seem to understand how Baggott isn't playing: https://avftt.co.uk/index.php?search/463255/&q=baggott&o=date They don't seem to like Matt Pennington much!

Thats because Matt Pennington is awful. He was a League One standard defender when we signed him, and that's exactly where we ended up.
