What do we, and what do the club want from the remaining games?! 13:16 - Mar 22 with 1513 viewsunstableblue

Season been disappointing but not disastrous.

Think we’ve performed admirably in many games… but fallen the wrong side of margins, felt the player quality gap, or (and this is the disappointing bit) failed to turn up with enough belief/energy plus maybe got the team selection slightly wrong.

There have been highs, many away from home. And the away end support has been remarkable.

Yes we’re pretty much down - an unlikely win at Bournemouth and a Cunhaless wobble against West Ham, and suddenly we’d all feel very different going into the Wolves home game.

But if the Championship is the destination - WHAT DO WE WANT AS FANS? and WHAT WILL THE CLUB BE AIMING FOR? in the last 9 games.

For me I want to get the first win of 2025 asap, and I want to end the season with some decent performances and to not go out with a whimper. Simple as that.

As for the club. I just cannot call whether McKenna stays, the training ground, his stock having fallen, settled family in Suffolk, huge salary… that makes me think he stays.

As for the team… I’ve been disappointed that Burgess has not been starting over Greaves and we haven’t given Hirst, Clarke and Broadhead more starts. But Greaves was our best player at the start of the season, and he’s the future. And he maybe he needs to play back into form. Similarly I think Philogene is good - and needs a goal. But him and Omari in the same team makes us lightweight.

Enciso is a loan.

They’ll want to keep fighting until mathematically certain. Then rethink.

What do you want from the remaining games below? What about the club?

Bournemouth (a)
Wolves (h)
Chelsea (a)
Arsenal (h)
Newcastle (a)
Everton (a)
Brentford (h)
Leicester (a)
West Ham (h)

I’m convinced if we beat Wolves at home… we’d pick up a few more wins before season end.

There's going to be some teams on the beach among that lot.

I fancy a couple of wins and that's without calling the Leicester one. Equally, they'll see that as one they should/have to win.

Finishing above Leicester has to be a goal alongside wracking up some wins

Can’t see Man City being deducted points for some time as they’ll go through the courts and are arguing much of it is historical. But might as well be the one to benefit, even if it’s a tiny chance.

Couple of things McKenna has said:

1. We have shown progression in that we have dominated games more against Leicester and Saints this term compared to last

2. The run we needed a few weeks back was never going to come, without a win. You don’t start runs or improved form without wins. It has to come soon.

Not sure on the beach thing. League position equals millions. And some managers like Potter may really need to get some kudos with the Hammers fans. Not been the emphatic start he’d have hoped for.

Not sure what we are taking from the Southampton performances, as we got one point from the two matches.

Enough points to survive.

Realistically though, a couple of wins, a couple of battling draws and, if possible, giving one of the teams with something to play for a black eye. Nothing against any of those teams but I would like us to go down swinging.

Truly impaired.

Yeah, a few wins would be nice, but otherwise some passion, fighting spirit and some hope for the future. A bit more attacking intent maybe?
I expect, with a few notable exceptions, the same team will be playing in the championship next season, no rebuild required, so it would be good to see more partnerships developing and some evidence we can dominate the championship.

Yes, agree we need to be more threatening - especially amongst the 3 behind Delap - who’ve been really poor at holding the ball and carving out real chances.

The XG table kind of mirrors the league table - with Villa and Forest also strangely low - and we are tied bottom. We’ve scored so few at home, and less in front of the North Stand

We’ve lost those McKenna moments of joy - that quick passing, and that has a lot to do with partnerships. But who can that be for next season.

In terms of holding team together… I think Hutchinson and Delap are hot properties, hard to keep. Plus the central midfield will leave. Does Axel go?

The spine I guess is Palmer, OShea and Hirst?!

Agreed - 6 points last term, 1 point this.

But it is a point I believe McKenna has made.

And I sort of get it… we dominated play. Just toothless, which is a theme this season.

Simple 27 points and a Wolves collapse.

In all seriousness though, *if* we were to stay up by some miracle, I do wonder whether next season would be any better than this one?

I don't really feel it's a valid point, he's sometimes just desperate for some kind of positive comment.

Would love to see a couple of home wins and being greedy some clean sheets!

I don't think anyone is on the beach but playing teams near FA/Euro matches is a bonus if that works?

A little unbeaten run in last 3 or 4 would be a good morale booster for next season.

Also if Delap is off, hope for a few more goals to add more £m's to his fee.
