Two questions: Anyone on here use a sleep tracker? And anyone given up sugar? 09:43 - Mar 24 with 5032 viewsThe_Flashing_Smile

I don't want to pay the earth for one, but I'd like one that's useful.

I'm guessing wearables are best? The ones that are just app based aren't going to work because surely they'd pick up whoever you're sleeping next to as well?!

Failing that, if anyone can tell me why I'm tired all the time...
Hardly ever drink, eat well, even gave up caffeine a month and a half ago, but that hasn't made a difference. Thinking about trying to give up sugar next...

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Sounds like the breathwork you're doing is Box Breathing? Can't be sure from your description. Do you do breath holds? Not sure if you would be up to it, but try doing some Breathwork first thing in the morning. Deep breathing with holds can Oxygenate your blood and perk you right up for the day ahead.

Sounds like the mouth taping is starting to work. If you are snoring less you are surely getting better quality sleep. When I started I woke up for the first couple of months with the tape gone indicating that I must have switched to mouth breathing during the night breaking it. After that I gradually started waking up with the tape intact and now do every morning. Means I'm breathing through the nose all night which is so much better for you. Don't ask me to explain the science as it loses me ... something about Nitric Oxide I think ...

Returning to your OP is it physical tiredness that you feel you're suffering from or sleepiness?

I do do Box Breathing occasionally, the one I mentioned is just a relaxation breath (longer on the exhale than the inhale and hold). I do a variety of breathwork but only recently got into it so not a lot yet.

I do this one (had been doing it every day in the afternoon but have curtailed it due to being busy with funeral stuff). Might have to try it in the mornings, but I love this, gives you a nice buzz/high;

I use Mefix Adhesive Dressing Tape, which is breathable, holds well and hasn't broken yet.

To your last question, sleepiness rather than physical tiredness.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

That's brilliant mate. Had a dip in and will do that breathing myself tomorrow morning. If it gives you a buzz imagine how good it is to start your day like that. I get up wash my face, clean teeth and then do half hour breathing. Follow that with a half hour walk in fresh air (Grabbing a coffee on the way 🤣), cold shower and I'm set for the day. I get up an hour earlier then I have to to do this but am convinced that hour does me more good then the extra hour in bed. Also doing a session when I get home from work and I may be tired totally refreshes me. Try it ... it's a lifestyle habit for me now and I get frustrated when I'm not able to do it due to life getting in the way.

Can I just say sorry about your Dad. Yes, I think that may be a factor in your tiredness. Stress wipes you out. I hope things settle down for you.

Just want to leave this here. So many people ask me about breathwork now and this is a video I recommend for people to try. Good luck eh

Sounds like some great ideas here. I get up early anyway (and do a gratitude diary plus meditation with breathing) but yes, some of the 'buzz' stuff could help in the morning. Thanks!

That's so funny, I've been doing the mouth-tape thing for a few months after seeing one of his youtube interviews, and also got the book for Christmas.

Sounds like you're on a similar path to me (other than coffee and roll ups!) but slightly ahead. Did you/do you feel different after cutting down the sugar?

This thread was the first time I'd heard of mouth taping.... I've been reading that book.... fascinating stuff...

I've been trying a bit of mouth taping ( mainly because I snore a bit, which keeps Mrs SA awake). It seems to help a bit with snoring ( especially post drinking), but also, my overnight resting heart rate has dropped significantly..( ~10% - high 30s to low 30s).... Going to keep tracking it to see what the effects are, as I think mouth breathing is definitely a contributing factor for my wife's sleep and tiredness issues, so going to have to gather some evidence to persuade her that mouth taping is not me trying to kill her!

Haha, yeah I've been trying to persuade Lady Dollers to do it but she's scared of choking or something. It's literally impossible. If you were choking you'd wake up... but I use porous tape which you can breathe through if you had to, it's literally just to keep your jaw closed.

Keep going and let us know how you (and the missus) get on!

Yeah, to be honest, I'm just using two thin strips of 1.5cm 3M micropore tape which is holding jaw closed but there's still gaps, and I can breathe in if I need to.

Will carry on for a bit, and then see if I can persuade her. She doesn't particularly do change though, so have to raise the issue, and then let her get used to the idea.

I use micro tape. It's so light that if you switch to mouth breathing in your sleep it just breaks off. As I said earlier that happened a fair bit for the first few weeks but rarely now.

It's also about 'training' yourself to nose breath.

I'll be interested to hear how it affects the quality of your sleep because since adopting it I definitely wake up more refreshed indicating my sleep quality is improved.

You've got a resting heart rate in the low 30s? You must be incredibly fit (or a zombie!). I'm low 60s.

Thanks. I'm a sucker for trying something new, so will have a look into this.

Do you reckon I'm I overdoing the tape?

It actually wasted a load of my time a couple of years ago.... went for an NHS health check, where they do BP, weight, pulse etc, and they were concerned that my HR was too low.... did an ECG, then decided to refer me to a cardio clinic.... had to have more tests. All the time, everyone I saw basically said, this is ridiculous, you're just presenting as a well trained person should, but computer says no.... eventually, after about 3 months of tests and appointments, I got to see a consultant ( amusingly, australian, the day after Zak Crawley had smashed them round Old Trafford), who despite some mild cricket based ribbing, basically told me that I was absolutely fine.

I'm not super fit, but I play squash to a reasonable level, and have done for about 35 years.... so heart is pretty strong and healthy.
