Ben Johnson's post match on 10:24 - Apr 3 with 2510 views | grow_our_own | Yeh I took that away too. Much better performance from Delap last night. Whereas in prior games, he'd attempt a low-percentage spin, dribble, and shot when receiving the ball, yesterday he shielded the ball from his marker, and played simple layoffs and passes. The latter might not appear on personal youtube & MoTD montages, but they're more likely to result in Ipswich wins. He's learning. [Post edited 3 Apr 10:25]

Ben Johnson's post match on 10:30 - Apr 3 with 2456 views | BlueOura | There were still times last night when I thought Enciso could have released the ball earlier, but then when you look at the assist for the goal you can see that sometimes the space opens up more when he keeps hold of it and draws players towards him. As with everthing in modern football it's fine margins.

There were still a couple of times that he held onto the ball too long that left me frustrated but I appreciate it's not going to be a sudden change and he was definitely better. In my opinion he almost started the season TOO well from an individual point of view and everyone was singing his praises. I wonder if he started getting a little high off his own supply, so to speak, and then when the goals dried up it made him more determined that he was going to be the man to fix it and he got a bit selfish.
Ben Johnson's post match on 10:39 - Apr 3 with 2376 views | ArnieM | OP : Id say its also about continuity ... There's been far to many changes to the team ( average 5-6 players in / out every gamer ?)...Also these players , especially the front line , are so young and inexperienced. Mick Mills commented last night post match , that this season really shouldn't have been about experimentation ( Which I think hes right to a degree). These young players have come in and by and large McKenna has chopped and changed things around every game . It doesn't help . But th players will have gained a valuable experience from playing week in week out. The same cant be said for the older players who have as far as I'm concerned been largely dispensed with or benched,( injuries notwithstanding), We will never know if we'd have survived if the manager had stuck with the same players,( Broadhead , Chaplin, Szmodics, Hirst etc ) in their normal positions. It is what it is , and I look forward to how this squad perform next season. I Just hope we can keep the majority of the players we have .

I think you need to be mindful that a large % of those changes are forced. Our injury situation has been awful this season, which has dictated this more than people realise.

I still expected him to shoot in that position.
Ben Johnson's post match on 11:01 - Apr 3 with 2186 views | NedPlimpton | I thought the same having read that. Delap and Enciso have both been guilty of trying to go it alone too often, and I felt that for both goals there would have been times previously where they wouldn't have looked to make a pass in those positions Promising signs, albeit too late for a real tilt at survival | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Ben Johnson's post match on 11:06 - Apr 3 with 2144 views | LankHenners | Telling as well that McKenna made a point of saying Delap's performance was much better last night than his previous ones recently. Since (and including) the Southampton game there's been a bit too much of an air of desperation about some of our attacking play. It's where we've missed a Szmodics or Chaplin imo for a bit of experience and calm in those situations but fair play if it's something that's been talked about and worked on behind closed doors.

We picked up more points when Szmodics was playing, but he's been injured. Hirst has also been injured & I think it's a big stretch to think that we would have done better starting Hirst ahead of Delap. We are not going to start with 2 strikers.

The second half against Southampton was the epitome of poor decision making by young players desperate to do well, Delap, Enciso, Omari & Philogene all guilty of that. Similar but more understandable at Old Trafford as at least the opposition were better. Enciso doesn't pass early enough either, think that ball to Broadhead for the goal was one of the first ones he had done. He'll be great for Brighton if he can get that bit right for next season.

All 4 of those players you mention in brackets have been injured for long periods.
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Agree, Szmodics has been a big miss since he has been out. He's probably the most experienced forward we have and knows how to read the game and be in the right place at the right time which none of our other players have developed (bar Chappers, who has also been out for a lengthy spell) We'd probably be a few points better off if Szmodics stayed fit

True that, Omari's next step in his development is decision making around releasing, he has often delayed and ends up losing the ball in areas where we get turned over.

Omari is only 21 & this has been a big step up for him. Yes, he's made some poor decisions but he strikes me as a player who wants to learn & improve & he'll be a big asset to town as either we keep him or I reckon we can sell him on at a decent profit.
