We have the widest pitch in the prem 21:40 - Apr 7 with 2400 views | onceablue | Is this one of the reasons our home form is so poor We have been particularly weak defending the flanks this season Leif and whoever has played at right back have been poor apart from Tuanzebe Godfrey, Johnson and Clarke just not good enough at this level

Very rare to see us getting behind a defender and whipping in a cross or a pullback a la Delap’s goal in midweek. Omari and co seem to prefer trying to cut inside rather than talking on their man. Also, from TV angles you’d think Wolves is the widest pitch not ours

Missed Burns I think now he did use the width
We have the widest pitch in the prem on 22:04 - Apr 7 with 2124 views | Garv | I think in general teams have enjoyed and felt comfortable playing at PR. Bar the early games where we were probably a bit of an unknown, or when teams have been off it (Chelsea) or are just poor (Man United, Leicester) it's been a great place to play for the oppo. Good pitch, big pitch, a home team that likes to attack and generally doesn't sit in a low block and grind out games. It was quite sad hearing Elanga say after the 4-2 that they knew we tend to start well so it was just a case of seeing out that period and then gradually coming onto us. It's almost like they were just keeping us at arms length, which is what the season has been like at times.

We have the widest pitch in the prem on 08:45 - Apr 8 with 1621 views | Herbivore | It worked in our favour last season, we were very effective at using the full width of the pitch and leaving space in behind for either Davis or Burns. This season, we've not had that natural width on the right which has hurt us in both attack and defence. I think we'd have gone down anyway, but the injuries to Ogbene and Burns properly screwed us as we don't have a third like for like option in that area of the pitch and it's really impacted us.

That's interesting, I thought when they originally planned it, it was going to be slightly longer

We have the widest pitch in the prem on 10:13 - Apr 8 with 1413 views | Smoresy | Do we though? Much of the internet records our pitch width at 75 metres, including the Premier League website, which would make it exceedingly wide. That's the maximum width allowed for international matches, while the recommendation and norm for elite football is 68 metres. Does it look 7 metres wider than the Emirates or 6 metres wider than Wembley to the naked eye? Phil's home-grown article reports the width to be 66 metres, which would place our pitch in the normal range: one of the narrowest actually at this level, but much closer to standard size. https://www.twtd.co.uk/amp/news/43699/portman-road-plans-reveal-longer-pitch [Post edited 8 Apr 10:15]

From my seat at back of SBR upper the goal line is definitely closer to me than it was on the old pitch. Makes a difference to the sightlines when people stand up.
| I was there when McKenna's ITFC won in the Premier League at Home. Our only home win in a year. |

I'm not sure how much stock I put in those measurements because I remember old Wembley pitch was wider than Portman Rd in 2000, so all our corners actually went into more dangerous positions in the 6yard box instead of missing everyone & going too long. Which is still a habit we haven't cured quarter of a century later and apparently playing most of the time on narrower pitches... There was a video too I think doing the rounds after the game someone had edited footage of Wolves seemingly taking a thrown in a couple of yards on the pitch, and it was just no that's where the touchline is now compared to where it used to be. So the pitch must be narrower than it was even a few years back

Looking at the pitch on Google maps the grass lines, which are usually space 6 yards apart, would suggest the pitch is about 70 yards wide
