I don't know, putting the obvious and deserved love for Mogga aside...looks more like they put faith in him but he has significantly underperformed. Performance wise, he has failed there. 6th when he took over and in terms of points achieved since his arrival, they're down in 16th. That's a very poor return, and so don't blame them in making a change.

Paint it whichever way you like but appointing somebody in January to kick them out in April? He was given a two and a half year deal and had a couple of weeks of the transfer window left so was given no chance to form his own team. That tells me that despite a really good track record as a manager who can build teams, they had no faith in him from the start. Why appoint him? As for ‘he has significantly underperformed’, maybe it is the players who have done that? Downed tools, just as they did here under Cook? But who knows. I’ll be interested to hear TMs thoughts on it, though I suspect he’s far too professional to say too much. Unlike West Brom, I wish him well.

He was appointed to maintain their push for the play offs or even better. He failed, I expect he knew that that was the deal. It's football unfortunately..... [Post edited 22 Apr 7:03]

Then why give him a two and a half year contract? Play offs or better with somebody else’s team or out you go suggests that next season they should be on manager number two by Christmas. Short termism. Oh well, as you rightly say, that’s football.

My view is that managers are often given longer-term contracts to show confidence, attract players, and provide a sense of stability to the club, players, and fans. I think the "had no faith in him from the start" stuff is emotionally blinded loyalty. I think it's the opposite, they had more faith in him to do a lot better than they have but the results have been pretty terrible. On the face of it, he's been a very poor appointment and they've gone backwards after Corberan. It's a pretty standard appointment I'd say with clear goals (the playoffs) and he's gone after not meeting those expectations. No different to Juric at Southampton, whereas it has worked with Pereira at Wolves. If McKenna goes over the summer and the new person has us midtable or below in Nov/Dec - we would need to make a change swiftly too. None of that changes that I wish him a happy and healthy retirement (if he wants one yet!)

Poor Mogga on 07:53 - Apr 22 with 950 views | BloomBlue | Lovely guy and I hope his health issues are behind him, but football is a results business, and since he arrived their results have gone backwards. Not sure I totally understand sacking someone with a couple of games to go, but it seems it was starting to become toxic with the fans.

You either appoint and give somebody a chance or you don’t. TM was not given a chance. 13 days of a transfer window. That was all he had to model that team. Looking at their results, after a great start they were already fading before Corberan legged it. One win in October/November, two wins in six in December is hardly sparkling form. Maybe Mowbray was a good appointment to a club with a team that was already going backwards. Was it made clear to him that it was play offs or better with somebody else’s declining team or out on his ear? I doubt it, but who knows what happens in that crazy world. Hopefully he’s paid, so 30 months money for three months work isn’t too shabby. Chopping and changing rarely works. There are exceptions, but if you are going to expensively employ somebody, try and find the right person and back them. Not easy - we know that given the selection of clowns employed by this club bar two since Royle’s time, but it is doable. If McKenna goes at the season’s end and the new person has a transfer window and makes a dogs of it, as Hirst and Cook (and windbag Lambert) did, yes it’s a parting of the ways. But I’d hope the club, these days, would be a little more measured about who it appointed and back them properly. Not boot somebody out after three months with somebody else’s fading team.

None of what you say is exclusive to Mogga, these things happen all the time, contracts are thrown around like confetti.... I don't know why we're all so surprised? [Post edited 22 Apr 8:21]

I would too. What capacity, I’m really not sure. He was immense for us. I gather he’s a really nice bloke too. Thinking of that time, George Burley walked past me on Sunday at the back of West Stand and I thought how much better he looked than the last time I’d noticed him a few months ago. I hope, like TM, he is on the mend. [Post edited 22 Apr 8:17]

Alan Brazil looked cheerfully ruddy in the pub yesterday. Reckons Delap's off to Chelsea for £45 million. And we're after Hadji Wright and some Brentford midfielder on a season-long loan.
